I’m beyond proud of myself, and let’s do our best this Saturday. Whatever the placement.🏆⁣

As you can tell from the separate posts, I hadn’t planned on making it to Zumba today, but I’m so happy that I did. The class was so much fun AND we had a little after party — okay, we just danced a bit after class. The point is that it was fun!!! As you can tell from the separate posts, I hadn’t planned on making it to Zumba today, but I’m so happy that I did. Entraînement Paddle terminé 🏄🏻‍♂️ Je commence à me sentir vraiment à l’aise, je n’ai plus l’appréhension de chuter à l’eau comme à mes débuts. Idem pour les vagues, j’avais tendance à me crisper quand j’en rencontrais une ; maintenant j’adore surfer dessus 😅 Le gros du boulot à l’avenir sera d’apprendre à moins forcer sur les bras en utilisant vraiment tout le corps pour pagayer efficacement!

With winter at our doorstep, if the cold, short days and long nights make you feel blue, and low on energy..trust me, you are not alone!!!
•1 in 5 Americans suffer from SAD-Seasonal Affective Disorder
•It is thought to be the lack of daylight and its effect on serotonin and dopamine, and mood.
•Another thought is the lack of light causes imbalance on the biological clock, which controls mood, sleep, and hormones
*Although that warm weather seems too far away, here are some tips to boost your mood and outlook on the day
1. See the light: increasing exposure to sunlight can help improve depressive symptoms- take a walk, or move your desk near a window
2. Get moving: exercise is proven to improve your mood, make you feel more positive, and even boost your energy by increasing the “feel-good” chemicals in the brain
3. Practice aromatherapy: this uses scents to to induce certain feelings- peppermint oil can boost energy and mental clarity, while lavender is used for calming and relaxation 
4. Harness the power of music: music can lift your mood- studies have shown music can be used as a treatment tool for physical and mental disorders
5. Let food be thy medicine: brightly colored fruits and veggies are full of antioxidants that can combat inflammation and reduce the risk of heart disease. Complex carbs (oatmeal and brown rice) help your brain produce serotonin, which improves the mood. Food rich in omega-3 (wild Alaskan salmon)are associated with reduced anxiety and depression
6. Plan a vacation: the excitement and anticipation correlated to researching new destinations and planning adventures can help you forget about the cold right outside
7. Lend a helping hand: the act of helping someone will elevate your mood- hold the door for someone, walk a neighbors dog, volunteer for a local community cause
8. Take your vitamins: it is recommended to add vitamin D during the winter months to raise blood levels to help produce dopamine and serotonin 
9. Get social: call a friend and go for a walk, catch a movie, or plan a fun evening with friends at the bowling alley for some action and laughs

Taking the time out of your day to reflect on the good that is present in your life is something that we should all practice more often! Part of my mental healing journey is recognizing the things in my life that cause me stress and anxiety, and conversely, recognizing things that I’m grateful for -mostly things that I take for granted each day 🤓 and also allowing myself to feel pride and joy for the things I’ve worked hard to accomplish!
I’m working on finding joy in small day-to day things instead of only allowing myself to feel “happy” or proud when I reach an achievement. Most of the time these “achievements” can be superficial anyways, so it’s super important to put things into perspective and that way I can use your gratitude to appreciate life more fully!! So today on thanksgiving- instead of just giving your “thanks for this food”- take a second to truly think about the things in your life you’re appreciative of, and also what the implications could be if they weren’t a part of your life. 
I’m grateful for this little Instagram support system and connections I’ve made because of it, and I want to thank you for being a part of it!
Hope u eat lots of yummy food and pie today (or leftovers if u already had your meal)!!! (Not a fan of pumpkin pie, is that weird?😂 I think it’s the Brit in me)
