Day 28 of 365: The Power of Positivity. For longer than I'd like to admit, my life was filled with negative thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Like many other things in life that I had been oblivious to, this was one that I did not want to continue. After finishing medical school, I took a solo trip to Europe to see new things and meet new people. While there, I became consumed with negative thoughts about my life, past choices, and what was to come. After shedding tears and addressing emotions, I realized that I attract the things that I want in life. To attract positivity and favor, I HAD to be positive! 
Studies have shown that people with a positive attitude and who are optimistic about life enjoy better health and quality of life. Many researchers suspect that people who practice positivity may be protected against the inflammatory damage that comes with stress. Also, both hope and positivity can help people make better health and life decisions and focus on long-term goals. 
Although we may not all be naturally positive thinkers, there are steps you can take to improve your outlook. Having a positive attitude is possible and you have the power to make the necessary changes to achieve this for yourself.

De manzana, banana y avena

Queda extremadamente rico y húmedo!!!!

✔️Ingredientes:
.
▪️1  bananas pisada
▪️1 manzana rallada o procesada
▪️1 taza de avena arrollada (150 gr)
▪️1 taza de harina integral (150 gr)
▪️3 huevos chía (3 cdas de chía + 9 cdas de agua)
▪️1/4 taza de aceite (el que tengas) (50 cc)
▪️1 taza de agua (200 cc)
▪️4 cdas de stevia líquido o 1/2 taza de azúcar mascabo
▪️1 cdtas de bicarbonato de sodio
▪️canela a gusto

✔️Preparación:
.
Tan simple como mezclar todos los ingredientes, volcar la mezcla en budinera previamente engrasada a horno medio por 40 a 60 minutos. Vayan chequeando!!

🔺La avena debe ser arrollada (no instantánea)
🔺La banana y manzana, pueden procesarla. 🔺Temperatura del horno: media. La idea es darle tiempo a que se cocine por dentro pero que no se queme por fuera. Me paso de sacarlo antes y que este crudo, lo volví a poner unos minutos y queso perfecto.

A modo de referencia, como para orientarlos:
.
👉🏼Para una colación: una rebanada.
👉🏼Para una merienda o desayuno: 1 rebanada + 1 cda de mantequilla de maní o frutos secos +1 fruta pequeña +  cafe con leche. (O un licuado verde con esa fruta)

🌱Sano, rico, casero, económico y sin ningún tipo de aditivo químico!

GUYS. It’s unreal. As promised, here’s the recipe👇🏼⁣
⁣
You’ll need:⁣
1 frozen cauliflower crust (I’ve used @traderjoes and @wholefoods and both work well!)⁣
@gothamgreens vegan pesto⁣
part skim ricotta cheese⁣
good olive oil ⁣(I used @saratogaoliveoilco)
black pepper⁣
sliced prosciutto ⁣
⁣
To make:⁣
Preheat oven to 425 F⁣
For the TJs crust, bake for 20 minutes total (flipping crust over halfway) ⁣
For the WF crust, bake for 10 minutes total flipping over crust halfway through ⁣
Remove from oven and add your toppings! I used about 1 cup of ricotta separated into dollops, 1/4 cup pesto, 2-3 slices of sliced prosciutto, and a generous amount of fresh cracked black pepper. Cook an additional 5-10 min. Remove from oven, drizzle with EVOO, slice. DONE. ⁣

How often do you find yourself grabbing a handful of nuts from a bowl on the counter or an extra brownie from the left over container sitting by your stove? Maybe it’s the candy dish “for guests” that you find yourself reaching for. Whatever it is chances are you weren’t hungry when you went for it. You didn’t have hunger pains, you reached because you saw it.

Those calories add up, more often than not you’re still consuming the same amount of calories at meals, not taking those mindless snack calories into account.

Do yourself (and your family) the simple favor of taking those items out of sight. Find a place for them behind a cabinet door. Put them back in the pantry.

By cleaning up your kitchen environment and making food invisible you are minimizing the chances of these not hungry, mindlessly snacking events.

ANXIETY YALL ~

I was just gonna post the second pic because I think I look way cuter in it but the first pic is much more telling of how I’ve been feeling this week. My anxiety has been completely out of control. Yesterday I woke up with cold sweats and so much pain in my chest I would have thought I was having a heart attack if I didn’t know better. This morning I rolled out of bed 5 minutes before I had to leave for work which is so not like me. I’ve been waking up with no interest in existing and on top of it the semester started this week. I am STRUGGLING but tomorrow is a new day. I can’t control how I feel when I first open my eyes but I can control how the rest of my day goes. So it’s time for me to pay more attention to self care, meditation, & focusing on the great parts of life instead of the not so great parts.

"Tighten up!," "Engage!" These are statements often used in the gym to describe a state of constant and controlled bracing of a group of muscles to perform a lift or movement. The problem is, if you don't know what muscles are supposed to be engaged or what that is supposed to feel like, then those statements don't really mean a lot. ⁣

Although there are MANY things that need to work in unison to achieve a proper brace (breathing, body angles, etc.), one major muscle that is a must is our transverse abdominis (TVA). Our TVA is our deepest core muscle running horizontally front to back and is located between our ribs and pelvis. The job of the TVA is both protection and stability. Unlike our other core muscles, rectus abdominis, internal & external abdominal obliques, our TVA is not engaged through movement but rather intrinsically as it tries to resist movement. For this reason, proper bracing of this muscle takes practice and time, especially if not "fired" and trained regularly. ⁣
⁣
Here are some first steps to learn how to find and contract your TVA:⁣
•lie on your back, knees bent, feet flat on floor⁣
•landmark the two bony projections at the front of the hips (anterior superior iliac spine, or ASIS) ⁣
with your index and middle fingers place them with gentle pressure about 2" toward your mid-line and about 1/2" down⁣
•think about pulling your belly button down toward your spine and feel for pressure pressing up into your fingers⁣
•once you feel this contraction, focus on your breathing and maintaining the positioning and pressure as you both inhale and exhale⁣
•you can also place one hand between the floor and lower back feeling for contraction and a narrowing of the space⁣

Once you have this practiced, you can start to add movement and continue to work on incorporating the TVA's into all of your lifts.⁣

I’ve been getting to yoga consistently over the last few weeks and I’ve really been loving it. It’s not just stretching, guys! It’s hard work! These two oils have been my jam. I’ve already coined Black Spruce as my yoga oil. I have one in my purse so I never forget it! It’s incredibly grounding and calming and has easily slipped into one of the top spots for my favorite oil ever. I also really love Deep Blue before a session. The same way I use the rub in larger areas prior to an intense workout, I use the oil in more specific places to loosen up before yoga.

But what is “success”? And why do we pursue what we’ve been told is success? We can all fall in the trap of comparison as I have in the past, and while to compete and prove ourselves can lead to accomplishment it doesn’t necessarily lead to happiness. I found happiness comes from within by shedding egotism, and not letting what others think of us take away from the fact we’re all connected and have innate value. 💯 .
Just as with exercise I’ve learned its really about enjoying our unique journey towards growth, and letting go of a predetermined outcome others may have set. As we’re reminded when others who seemingly have it all are suddenly gone, we all ultimately won’t be able to take those things.  It’s been shown in all great traditions and  studies that our happiness is connected with our ability to appreciate the moment, and connect authentically with ourselves and each other. .
May we all be happy, at peace, and free to have the life we truly want.🙏💜

My family is pro at last minute trips 😂👌🏼 A little over a month ago we decided we hadn’t gone anywhere in awhile, so we looked up places where cheap flights were headed, and Texas was on the list ✈️ So we bought the tickets, booked the hotels a week or so before, and basically made the itinerary up as we went. 🛣 And it was a blast!! 🙌🏼

The last day of our trip we heard about the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant, his daughter, and friends. It reminded me again how short life is, and how we never know what will happen. I was so glad we made that last minute trip to Texas a reality, so we could make more memories together as a family 🌵🐂

I encourage you, take the time off work. Go to the event. Make the trip happen. Or go on an adventure in your own backyard. Tell the ones you love, that you love them. Don’t stay upset for too long, or better yet, try not to let things get to ya. Wake up each day grateful. Read your Bible and talk to Jesus as much as you can. Life is too short for anything less! 💕
