It’s gainsss season. 💪 Currently eating 2400-2500 kcals per day with 1-1.25 grams of protein per lb of bodyweight, high carb, and moderate fat.

My goal over the next few months is to add lean muscle, with minimal body fat.

While gaining SOME body fat is normal and to be expected, I’ve learned the hard way in the past that whatever excess fat you gain, you eventually have to “diet off” if you want to see all of your hard work from your building phase.

This is where I structured approach to “off season” nutrition comes in to play.

While I might be more relaxed with weighing/measuring my food in a gaining phase, my goal is still to eat the optimal amount of food for increases in muscle mass/performance, without going overboard and gaining unnecessary body fat.

Simple two exercise HIIT workout. My heart rate was way up and the lifting hooks took all the pressure off my forearm so I did 7 rounds of 10 reps with minimal rest.

Every single client I train uses push-ups in their programming because they’re a foundational upper body movement.

In general, push-ups don’t get the love that bench press does with regards to upper body strength. But to be clear, not everyone can, or should, be doing barbell press.
.
.
Often times, pushups tend to get overlooked because of how simple and basic they can be. However, this is far from the truth. When done correctly, they are quite difficult to perform because in reality it’s a total body exercise. When you think about properly engaging your whole body and slowing down the tempo of the exercise, this makes it much harder to do. .
.
Also, by using various push-up progressions; you can still get stronger, maintain healthy shoulders, increase core stability, burn more body fat, and even become more athletic. Who doesn’t want that? 😬
.
.
Lastly, one more of the most important cues that I like to teach when performing the push-up and I think is a total game changer is the something called “REACH”. .
.
When you think about reaching or pushing your body away from the ground at the top end of each rep, this will teach you how to engage your serratus anterior. When this technique is accompanied with proper breathing, this can really open up the back side of the body and really help with shoulder health.
.
.
Give this TRX Push-up a try on your next upper body day. Try doing 3-4 sets of 12-15 reps with a pause and reach at the top of each rep. These can be quite challenging. .

1️⃣ Warm up : hyper extensions with a slight pause at the top to engage the entire back. 
4 sets of 15 reps should do it! — 
2️⃣ Overhand assisted pull-ups 
8 reps superset with👇🏽
3️⃣ Underhand assisted chin-ups
5 slow & controlled reps for 3 whole supersets.
— 
4️⃣ Seated close grip cable pull-downs 
4 sets of 10 reps.
— 
5️⃣ another superset here..
10 single arm cable rows straight into 10 single arm rear delt cable pulls.
Repeat the superset 3 times on each side
— 
6️⃣ finished off with renegade rows
3 sets of 20 reps (each row counts as one rep) This exercise is really good for your core too! You want to keep your entire body stable, the only movement should be the row where your pulling the weight through your elbow to your back. —
