If we take a minute to go back to some of Coach Glassman's early post one would find some basic introductory elements of gymnastics, weightlifting and more.

Focusing on these basic elements usually requires one to practice movement at low intensity. In order to truly master what some consider these Basic Elements of fitness it is necessary to check your ego and take 5 steps back.

“Make the elbow disappear.”

When?
Holding weight overhead
.
What does this mean?
If the elbow is bent while holding weight overhead, the athlete is placed in a weak position and working harder than necessary. This is also likely a sign of limited overhead mobility.
.
Locking out the elbow (“making the elbow disappear”), allows the weight to be connected to the torso, rather than pressing through a bent arm.

Honestly, I was not expecting to love powerlifting as much as I am. I’m having so much fun with this program and after only 2 weeks on it I already feel stronger 💪🏻 can’t wait to see the end result...and then do it again 🤪

Side note, I kinda want to try to hit a 1000lb total. I’m a little less than 150lb away. If I can get that total, I’ll likely go out for a powerlifting comp. (today weighed in at 158lb bodyweight)

6 months ago I hit 150kg for a sketchy looking new 1RM. I’m now hitting it for a better looking 2 reps and a new 1RM of 163kg 👌🏼

The principle of progressive overload involves placing demands on the body which must be increased progressively over time.
.
There are a number of ways in which as a coach we can manipulate the programme for an overload to occur, such as: Increase intensity (lift more weight than the week before), Increase Volume (completing more reps and sets), Increase frequency (the number of sessions within the week), Increase tension (take longer to complete the exercise repetition).
.
However, too much overload can lead to under-recovery and injury. The challenge therefore lies in getting the balance right, so that you keep improving without exceeding the body’s capability to recover.
