Cut Update ✂️

6 weeks in...and I’m struggling 😫 I found last week so so so hard!! Pretty much had zerooooo energy the whole of last week, my training went downhill, everything felt heavy, I had to drop the weight on a few exercises...which was SO frustrating ☹️ And the weekend just gone was a bit of a write off 🤦🏽‍♀️ I think because I’d really struggled through the week I just wanted to take a few days off 😴 Didn’t track anything over the weekend so I’m not sure how far over my calories I went (don’t think it was too drastic though) 🤷🏽‍♀️
.
The lowest I’ve been so far on the cut is 72.7kg (down from 77kg) and after the weekend I’ve gone back up to 73.4kg (probably holding a lot of water 💧) Despite that, I’m actually glad I ended up having a few days off, I felt like I needed it 🙋🏽‍♀️ and I’m so ready to get back on it and smash these last 2 weeks 💪🏼

Cardio is still at 5 x 30 mins (with 5 weight sessions) and I’ve put my calories down to 1900 🙃

8 weeks of hard work and consistency...and this is where I’m at 💪🏼🙋🏽‍♀️

First photo was taken at 8 weeks ago before I started my cut 📸 I’d be bulking for around 6/7 months and my weight was sitting at 77kg 👀 2nd photo was taken this morning, after 8 weeks of being in a calorie deficit...now weighing 71.1kg 🙌🏽
.
So, what have I done during the 8 weeks? 🤔
.
🏋🏼‍♀️ WEIGHT TRAINING - I’ve kept my weight training pretty similar to where it was during my bulk. Decreased volume slightly and added in a few super sets/drop sets...but stuck on the same split. Been trying so so hard to maintain my numbers (even managed to get a few PBs too). Cutting/dieting ISN’T an excuse to take it easy and drop your weights!!!
🚶🏽‍♀️CARDIO - mainly been doing LISS (incline walk), started off with 3 x 20 mins and gradually build it up to 5-6 x 30 mins per week. Started off enjoying it but these last few weeks I’ve been dreading it most days! But if you’ve got a goal you want to reach...sometime you just have to grit your teeth and get on with it
🍕 NUTRITION - been gradually decreasing calories, currently sitting at 1900 per day. Kept my protein nice and high. There were a few occasions where I did go over my calories (twice I think in the 8 weeks) but that’s life! Still been enjoying foods like pizza, bread, cheese, pasta, chocolate...THESE FOODS WILL NOT MAKE YOU FAT!!

Now time for 10 days of relaxation in the sun ✈️☀️👙🌴🍹

Worried about a little extra Holiday Weight?🎅🏼 This time of year it’s cold, dark, probably raining, and that’s an easy excuse to turn to food for warmth and comfort. 
So instead of starving yourself all week and binging on Christmas Day, let’s just embrace the opportunity for healthy weight gain. 
Put those extra calories to good use and focus on improving strength and building muscle! 
Heavy compound lifts, a little calorie surplus and plenty of rest! Sounds like a plan!

Add 3 or 4 rounds at the end of any other home workout, or to finish off an outdoor run, because running  isn’t hard enough 🤣

MEAT-FREE MONDAY!

Thank god for my regular posts because I’d have lost track of what day it is 🤣

With shopping trips being less frequent, you might be struggling for healthy meal ideas, BUT we often overcomplicate what a healthy meal looks like!

It certainly isn’t ‘protein pasta’, ‘Slimming World’ ready (processed!) meals or expensive ‘low fat’ options! 
It’s stripping your diet back to basics! And it really isn’t as boring or tasteless as that might sound!

A quick and easy option which takes less than 15 mins is a one-pot pasta dish, saves on washing up and works out at less than £3 per portion. - Pasta
- Broccoli
- Spinach
- Mushrooms - Spring onion
Sauce:
- 1 tin of tomatoes
- Stock cube
- Paprika
- Cayenne pepper (optional!) I also found some veggie balls in the freezer to bulk it out, and topped with a hot sauce 🌶😋 That’s it! Nothing too exciting but it tastes amazing, cost next to nothing and can be easily adapted to whatever’s lying around the fridge! 
We’ve got all the time in the world right now, so no more ‘I don’t have time to cook’. This is the BEST time to get your nutrition on track.

Week 1 almost over... I’ve also seen a billion home workout videos these last few days! Some of us have gone from training 5-6 times a week, to sitting inside for most of the day. Home workouts are keeping us almost sane.

But please don’t feel guilty if you haven’t felt like training this week. 
If you’ve ‘Netflix and chilled’ every night, that’s ok! 
Do whatever you need to do while you get your head around this weird situation. 
If this has taught us anything, it’s that our health can disappear so quickly. 
So focus on what’s important. Take time to slow down, call family and friends, learn to cook nutritious meals, meditate, do more yoga, move your body. 
Get healthy AF so that when this is all over, you can come back stronger than ever.

This thing might have stopped you from doing a lot of the things you love, but don’t let it stop you from getting, and staying fit. 
Save some workouts that look kinda fun, so that when you’re feeling ready, you’ve got all the tools you need to get back into it 😘

I’ve had a load of messages about certain classes so I decided to film my busiest... LBT! Not sure about you lot, but I am missing the gym, my clients, colleagues and I miss teaching your classes!😩 Yes, I know I never make them easy, I know you guys swear at me under your breath (I can hear you btw!) but that’s why you like it, right?

So, you know the drill.
12 reps of each exercise.
3 rounds of each circuit.
Minimal rest.
Should take you around 30-40 mins!
Super awkward demo videos included, as you know how much I bang on about proper form!🤓 Warm Up:
4 x Walk Outs
6 x Hip Openers
8 x Squats
20 x Mountain Climbers 
Round 1:
- Donkey kicks + pulses
- Frog pumps
- Glute Bridges

Round 2:
- RDL’s (use whatever kind of weights you can! 2 tins of beans!?)
- Split Squats
- Squats with pulse - Sumo squat pulses

Round 3:
- Toe Touches
- Crunches
- Leg raises
- Russian Twist

You can do these bodyweight, or grab whatever weights/resistance bands/dogs/children you can lift! Get creative! *please do not drop your pets or children*

MEAT-FREE MONDAY! 
Turning up the heat this week with a Thai Green! 
One of those recipes you can throw together really easily! It’s also a really good way to get in a load of veggies and use up any older ones from the fridge.

All you need:
- 1 x Blue Dragon thai green curry pot (they’re £1 and the nicest flavour I’ve tasted!)
- 1 can of coconut milk - A loada veg!

You guys asked, so here’s a Lower Body Workout you can do at home, no equipment needed! (Check out the concentration face🤣) The world is a scary place right now! For a lot of us, public places like the gym just aren’t where we want to be, and that’s ok. 
Some of us have kids or vulnerable family members to care for. 
So it’s important we stay fit and healthy! 
The worst thing we can do for both our physical and mental health is to sit around, overthinking and worrying (Easier said than done, I know!) Don’t give up on your goals! 
Sure, you won’t be hitting any deadlift PBs in the living room but you can still get a good sweat on🥵

Tonight’s meal: quick, simple and full of stuff that’s probably already in your kitchen!

Method:
Heat a pan and throw in 1 onion, 2 cloves of garlic, a few coriander leaves, 1 tsp of turmeric, cumin, cayenne pepper, and nigella seeds.
Once browned, add in a can of chickpeas, can of lentils, tinned tomatoes, half a head of cauliflower and leave to simmer for 15-20 mins.
Once cooked through, add in a few handfuls of spinach and serve with rice. Simples.

Balanced, clean and full of the good stuff 🌱

Hubs is cooking a Sunday roast this afternoon, but the little one fancied “healthy snacks” so I whipped up some hummus! Hummus can be so painstaking, soaking, boiling in bicarb and skimming off the skins... but the results are some gorgeous creamy hummus that everyone can share.

⏳ W K 1- S H R E D ⏳

This week has been about resetting my mind and reigniting the fire in my belly to achieve my goals. It has definitely worked, I’ve been getting up at 6am to do cardio and steps, going to work, then back in the gym for my evening weight sessions. I put batteries in my scales after not weighing myself for 2/3 weeks and I am a little chunk starting this cut at 159 lbs, the positive is I didn’t buy any new clothes for my bulk, dress size was and is the same just a little bit more snug and had to do the cheeky button opening after food 👀. Just proves numbers on scales are not the be all and end all. 
Considering I’m now splitting my sessions with fasted cardio in the morning and weights in the evening, with the weights being heavy as I can and rep range I do I think it’s deffo important for me to keep my buzz through pre work out or coffee before going to the gym. Just as I don’t want my energy depleting and affecting the weight I know I can get up.  Overtime I think my body will get used to the early starts🙌🏼 Having new goals and new challenges for me is just a massive reset button, you can get a bit complacent and lazy over time so it’s always important to keep striving toward weekly/monthly goals. .

Just proves numbers on scales are not the be all and end all.
Considering I’m now splitting my sessions with fasted cardio in the morning and weights in the evening, with the weights being heavy as I can and rep range I do I think it’s deffo important for me to keep my buzz through pre work out or coffee before going to the gym. Just as I don’t want my energy depleting and affecting the weight I know I can get up. Overtime I think my body will get used to the early starts🙌🏼 Having new goals and new challenges for me is just a massive reset button, you can get a bit complacent and lazy over time so it’s always important to keep striving toward weekly/monthly goals. .

WORKOUT WEDNESDAY!
This week is a tough little chest and tricep superset. The struggle was very real!😫
Supersets are a great way to increase intensity in your workouts.
Supersets mean you perform two exercises back to back, rather than resting between single sets.
- Same muscle group: You could perform exercises for the same muscle group, which really ramps up the intensity and fatigues the muscles much quicker.
- Different muscle groups: You could pick two muscle groups and mix it up, meaning one group gets a rest while you work the other.
There are so many options and variations with supersets, so get creative.
This was a finisher from my workout last week and it felt great, tough but great!
1. Alternating medicine ball press up: 
I’ve only added these to my routine recently, just to make it a little more fun and challenging… and I love them! 
You place one hand on the ball while performing a press up, then roll the ball across to the other hand.
Not only are you working your chest muscles, but also shoulders and abs. The ball adds an element of instability, forcing your core to engage more. You can drop your knees to the floor if needs be. I’ve found it’s great for increasing overall strength for standard press ups. 
2. Tricep pushup:
My Wednesday BodyPump crew literally love these 😁 (I think!)
I find using a low box a bit more comfortable personally. You’re wanting to hit the triceps rather than the chest muscles, so turn the hands out slightly and tuck the elbows in so they brush past the ribs.
These aren’t easy, but for me, more beneficial than tricep dips. I can isolate the correct muscles much easier (and it doesn’t put as much strain on the wrists.) Again, you can drop the knees to the floor for this one.

1. Remember your Why

It might be that you’re getting married. It could be that you’re getting beach ready. It could be for your health, physical and mental so you can live longer with your kids. Remember your why, talk yourself through it and try to put yourself in a situation where you would wish you done the work. At the alter, on the beach, in low moments and an extreme one, but the look on your kids faces when you die earlier due to health problems that could potentially have been prevented.

2. Talk
Tell someone that you’re meant to be going to do whatever it is and that you’re thinking of skipping it. Tell someone who genuinely cares, who’s on your side and who will offer support to help you move closer towards your goal. Don’t tell that fake friend who secretly wants you to skip so you fail and be just like them.

3. Trick
Tell yourself you aren’t going. That releases you mentally and you stop thinking about it. Then just drive there last minute. If you’re meant to do an hour. Tell yourself you’re only doing 20mins or the first part. Maybe the cardio bit and you’re going to leave the weights and conditioning. Mentally again, you feel much better, less tired because you’re not thinking of an hours slog. Then of course you trick yourself into the next part of your session. And repeat. .
4. Reduce
Bargain with yourself. If you’re meant to do an hour total, cardio, weights and some conditioning, pick 1 or 2 parts to do. The one/s you like most this reducing the overall session and the bit you perhaps aren’t so keen on.

I mean such mundane tasks like sitting on the toilet begins to feel like an Olympic sport! I know ya’ll know what I’m talking about 🙈 we’ve all been there...... So it’s even more important to stretch. 
Stretching keeps the muscles flexible and we need that flexibility to maintain the range of motion in the joints. It also improves posture and decreases muscle soreness. 
Here’s some I did today that helps with my glutes, hamstrings, hips and quads.

I mean such mundane tasks like sitting on the toilet begins to feel like an Olympic sport! I know ya’ll know what I’m talking about 🙈 we’ve all been there...... So it’s even more important to stretch.

MEAT-FREE MONDAY!
If you’re cutting down on meat but don’t fancy the alternatives, try swapping mushrooms as a meat replacement.
Not only are they a decent, clean source of protein and carbs, but they’re really good at mimicking meat and soaking up a tonne of flavour!
I’ve found the best ‘shroom is Oyster. They’re really easy to shred and super tasty!
Dry pan fry for 4 to 5 mins, then mix into some herbs/spices, like paprika, cayenne pepper etc.
Then pop into the oven and roast for 20-30 mins until they start to get all crispy. 
For this recipe, I coated them in a light hoisin sauce with some ribbon noodles, spicy ramen and spring onion.

“You wouldn’t understand your in good shape” 
I have to work to maintain what I have, truth is Iv had an eating disorder in my early twenties. My problems with food is something I will always have. I am a major foodie. I eat my emotions but when I was younger and lost some weight I was afraid to eat. Took numerous pills, laxatives, fat burners to stay slim (see middle image) I was 9 stone. I generally thought being skinny was life. It’s what guys like 🤦🏽 instead of being proud of my curvy self I longed to have a smaller bum and skinnier legs, bigger boobs 💁🏼 I’m 12 stone now, I’m squishy but I look like I can lift a big of weight and I can push myself hard in training. I’m not a “insta fit model” nor do I want to be. 
Iv learnt that il never be tiny! I suit my curves and I don’t like cardio that much or starving myself so It’s just not going be me! 
Women out there! Please stop thinking you need to be someone your not! Embrace you!
