*THIS POST IS NOT SATIRE*  I don’t know if it’s worth saying “BREAKING” at this point but, Jon Jones failed another drug test for VADA.  Found steroid metabolites in his system.  My question is, with this whole “pulsating” occurrence that happens with these picograms, how long do we just keep letting him fail tests because it’s in his system? One of my favorite exercises for controlling hypermobility...the quadruped roll out.

If you've ever done down stretch or long stretch on the Reformer, this is a way to do it at home with just a foam roller.

It's great for those of us who are super bendy (I'll give more info later on how to see if you are hypermobile). There's a lot to work on and think about, so it's good for nearly any body part, too.

Here, you can see that I struggle with keeping my back neutral and controlling the motions of my shoulders compared to controlling my hips. (I've worked on my hips a lot more.) It's a fun addition to planks and there are multiple variations you can do (coming soon!)

On days where we have a longer, but less intense practice we get some accessory work done. The purpose is to supplement our compound work and get some prehab work in.

Areas of focus are hammies, groin, shoulders, hips, etc. Core stability with dynamic movement is a focus on these days. I like the Kossak Squats with the med ball push for groin and hammie health as it is a loaded stretch/movement. In order to access higher flexibility and/or mobility you often have to drive the body to move or work in that range. Shoulder work with unstable load for control. A few reps to increase strength endurance in certain muscle groups. Lastly, the seated heel raises to work the soleii muscles (which require knee flexion to be targeted).

This isn't all we do, but there isn't a catalogue of things beyond this either. Keeping things simple, but effective and to the point (work smart). I'll let the basketball coaches dazzle these guys 🧠s, 🤣.

I’ve been around this sport since high school in different roles: girlfriend, amateur photographer, coaches wife, and mom. Now that I’m a #pilatesteacher there’s so much I want to help the wrestlers learn! 
Apparently, in wrestling, it’s all about them hips. (Not that bass 😂). Some wrestlers have “good hips”. As I’ve asked questions about what this means and watched the movements, I’ve also noticed that many male clients have a harder time differentiating their pelvis, glutes, and abs. I’m working with some wrestlers on finding ways to access each part individually as well as integrating the whole. What suggestions do you have about specific exercises and cues that help them “get it”? I’ve been around this sport since high school in different roles: girlfriend, amateur photographer, coaches wife, and mom. Now that I’m a #pilatesteacher there’s so much I want to help the wrestlers learn!
Apparently, in wrestling, it’s all about them hips. (Not that bass 😂). Some wrestlers have “good hips”. As I’ve asked questions about what this means and watched the movements, I’ve also noticed that many male clients have a harder time differentiating their pelvis, glutes, and abs. I’m working with some wrestlers on finding ways to access each part individually as well as integrating the whole. What suggestions do you have about specific exercises and cues that help them “get it”? For something to become great it requires the effort and the effort of an entire team. But too often with organisations we see founder’s failing to relinquish control as their venture grows. ⁠

The idea of creating something bigger than themselves is theoretically their desire, yet practically they fail to embody this by giving more responsibility to other’s in the running of the venture. ⁠
⁠
This is the core of Founder’s Syndrome - the idea that an organisation/project/program faces incredible difficulties due to the founders of it failing to relinquish a disproportionate amount of control in decision making. This stifles innovation and as seen recently with WeWork, can damage an organisation’s entire sense of credibility.⁠

◾️ Is your deadlift ass? HELL YEAH 🗣 Many individuals perform the deadlift with excessive energy leaks in the hips and knees while also lacking proper foot and ankle activation. .
Most abberations and dysfunction will be exposed by eccentric phase of the lift. There is too much attention being given to completing the reps quickly and not efficiently so there is lost control due to slamming/bouncing the weight. Lack of control contributes to faulty mechanics which produce wasted force vectors with varying amounts of force being transmitted horizontally, laterally, diagonally, basically everywhere but vertically into the floor which is the main shit you should be focused on. Until you can distribute force vertically and evenly, you will continue to have notable imbalances, lack of control, and an ugly deadlift. .
In other words, squats, deadlifts, lunges, jumps, Etc can be dangerous lifts if improper cues are followed such as excessive loads, extremes muscular dysfunction, lack of attention to detail, and bad ass coaching cues. ◾️ Notice at the beginning, Shawn was clearly ignoring the importance of his eccentric phase (lowering the weight and this phase is important for hypertrophy) so he was letting gravity do the work and not his body. Also, he was rounding his back, leaning back on his heels, and leaning back after finishing his concentric phase of the lift. Quick breakdown: .
We’ve established that uncontrolled speeds cause more dysfunction which lead to various injury (specifically lumbar spine). Use a weight you can control to ensure the Erector Spinae, Hamstrings, Glutes, Quads, etc. can do their job .
The biggest take away is the 3 point contact. Heels, big toe, pinky toe. There is an improper cue of “sit back on the heels” without taking into consideration that the litter will disregard the big and pinky toe which are vital to evenly distribute force within the lift. You want to find an equal balance for that 3 point contact so you can get closer to that perfect vertical push. .

Today’s Transitional and Dynamic Postural Assessments. We now have the necessary information to be able to include corrective exercises into their respective training programmes. 
We will reassess every four weeks monitoring the feet, ankles, knees, hips, spinal alignment, and head position. 
We are asymmetrical beings so everyone has an imbalance somewhere but with the right correctional strategy and progressive training systems in place we can minimise the risks of injury, any overuse of muscles and improve the performance of these individuals in the long-term. 
For John we also did a trunk rotation assessment to assess his thoracic mobility as part of his goal of improving his golfing performance.

My work now involves identifying overactive / under-active muscles acting on specific joints. We will try to isolate these muscles through stretching/strengthening them through their full range of motion. Over time we should have more mobility, flexibility and strength around the joints AND some very happy clients 😀

The Switch is an exercise I have been programming for practically all rotational athletes, athletes with movement in more than one direction, or athletes rehabbing lower body (see Makenzie’s ankle).

Over the past couple of weeks I have had the opportunity to present to my athletes on my S&C plan for the season and on wellness. I strongly believe that when you educate and/or communicate with the athletes you train, things run a lot smoother (and that applies to life in general). Educated people (usually) make better decisions. ⠀
It is important to make the athlete feel involved, aware & prepared. Through presenting & sharing the coaching staff also have an opportunity to understand what value you bring and gain insight on things they may have never considered before. Presenting also opens up the door for questions and/or concerns that they may have, which helps establish trust, accountability and understanding (plus, other conversations are usually sparked after the fact due to people opening up more).

Never run away from being questioned or challenged, and don't be afraid to explain your philosophy, methods or ideas. These are great progression and rapport building opportunities. And I say that to myself before anyone else. Show them you ain't just a pretty lifter there's more to S&C than wearing sweats and caps. 🤣

We’re all great at critiquing a failed plan or something that has gone wrong. But why wait?⁠

Shouldn’t we try to envisage what may go wrong in our pursuit of a goal or project to ensure we eliminate such things from occurring? ⁠

This is central to the idea of a ‘premortem’ - a thought exercise where individuals imagine a project has failed and then together they work backward to determine what potentially could lead to the failure of the project. ⁠

We’re all great at critiquing a failed plan or something that has gone wrong. But why wait?⁠

Shouldn’t we try to envisage what may go wrong in our pursuit of a goal or project to ensure we eliminate such things from occurring? ⁠

This is central to the idea of a ‘premortem’ - a thought exercise where individuals imagine a project has failed and then together they work backward to determine what potentially could lead to the failure of the project. ⁠

I’ve been putting my patients with lower body aches and pains on the treadmill recently. Plantar fasciitis, knee pain, and low back pain.... you name it, you’re going on the treadmill. Why? 1️⃣. We can see where muscles aren’t working for you. 2️⃣. We can offload the joint a bit by putting one leg on the side of the treadmill and other leg on the belt. Then, we can cue the leg to move through an optimal walking pattern. This allows your brain to connect with the body the way we want it to! 3️⃣. If you like to run, it’s also good to check out form and provide corrective feedback!

This is central to Antifragility - the idea that something or someone can increase in their capability to thrive after shocks, volatility, and failures. ⁠

Such negative impacts are actually deemed a necessity for the individual to get the most out of themselves. This was seen recently with new heptathlon World Champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson. After winning the World Youth title in 2009 Katarina has suffered a number a number of complete performance breakdowns when it really mattered. This included 3 foul long jumps in the 2015 world championships and below-par high jumps that cost her a medal at the 2017 world championships. ⁠

These shocks to her system have overtime honed a more focused and deliberate mindset when it comes to performing and this finally paid off with 3 PBs during her gold medal winning performance at this year’s world championship in Doha. ⁠

I did not place but I did not come last which was my “written goal” 👍🏼

Sports nutrition is definitely my thing! But also is health and wellness period. First batch of dark cocao nibs with oat flour and coconut sugar. Vegan style. I didn't realize how much protein this version of dark cocao had in it naturally. And also oats. Plant protein is great for human performance im finding. The more the plant the merrier. Cooking your own food as a performance athlete is really baller. It gives you sought after skills as a performance chef as well giving you the added mental health boost of positive psychology. Knowing you KNOW what you're doing for yourself and your body. I steeped holy basil straight from our garden in hot almond milk for the wet bonding agent as well as some vegan butter. Holy basil has been found in scientific studies to reduce stress tension and anxiety, helps as a natural sleep enhancer, stimulates and vitalizes the body and mind, contains many antioxidants, lowers high cholesterol and high blood pressure along with so much more! Taking the time to eat any health and wellness food is medicine!!! And taken to even a higher level when eaten out in nature and sunlight!
