If so, here are my top tips for dealing with cravings and/or hunger throughout the day:⁣
⁣
1️⃣ Try addressing the hunger:⁣
⁣
Is it real? Should you actually be eating something? Are you just bored and need something to do? Or have you truly not eaten enough today and SHOULD be giving your body that satiety?⁣
⁣
Be thoughtful, and be honest with yourself. You deserve that.⁣
⁣
2️⃣ If it’s BS, have some gum or a glass of water (or even something small/nutritious, like an apple) and find something to keep you productive instead...⁣
⁣
3️⃣ You could even plan your next legitimate meal for a certain time later on, then actually organize your day’s schedule around that.⁣
⁣
4️⃣ If it’s legit, look at what you decide to eat in the context of your day...⁣
⁣
👉🏼 Think: “Do I need something sweet to satisfy a craving? Or something of quality/substance to actually fill me with nutrients & calories?”⁣
⁣
👉🏼 If sweet, I suggest either a controlled/intentional portion of a “treat food” (i.e. an Oreo, a handful of candy, or a small cup of ice cream), OR something nutritious like a cup of frozen fruit (I always have frozen berries in stock at home)⁣
⁣
👉🏼 If it truly is time for a meal, the general priorities for me—in order—are always:⁣
⁣
✔️ It fits into my overall day’s calorie goal⁣
✔️ It tastes good/enjoyable to me⁣
✔️ It contributes to my day’s protein goal⁣
✔️ It’s filling and won’t leave me wanting more⁣
✔️ It contains lots of vitamins/minerals⁣
⁣
People are different, but this thought process works great for me, and keeps me disciplined, yet completely sane and healthy, even when dieting with a lower calorie intake.⁣

Why do you do what you do in the gym?

If you can’t answer that then there’s a problem. Every single part of your program should have a PURPOSE and it should directly relate back to your goals.

If it doesn’t, then it’s not helping you get to where you want to be and at that point what are you really doing with your time?

Here’s an example:

One of my goals is to get a stronger deadlift. That’s why I deadlift and why I program them for myself in a specific way. It’s to get myself to the strongest 1 rep max possible. That’s why I do a lot of heavy sets of 3 reps and sometimes even just heavy single rep sets. Because it most closely relates to what I want to achieve.

If your goal is to build lean muscle, there’s no reason to do heavy single sets of deadlifts. Building muscle requires muscle damage and a lot of volume, both of which do not apply to this type of program.

I will reiterate. Every aspect of your program should have the purpose of getting you closer to where you want to be, otherwise you’re wasting your time. You should know why you’re doing what you’re doing.

If you don’t know your “why”, you need to find out. Either do your research or find someone who does know who can guide you on the righteous path. (That’s where I can come in….*wink wink nudge nudge)

Why do you do what you do in the gym?

If you can’t answer that then there’s a problem. Every single part of your program should have a PURPOSE and it should directly relate back to your goals.

If it doesn’t, then it’s not helping you get to where you want to be and at that point what are you really doing with your time?

Here’s an example:

One of my goals is to get a stronger deadlift. That’s why I deadlift and why I program them for myself in a specific way. It’s to get myself to the strongest 1 rep max possible. That’s why I do a lot of heavy sets of 3 reps and sometimes even just heavy single rep sets. Because it most closely relates to what I want to achieve.

If your goal is to build lean muscle, there’s no reason to do heavy single sets of deadlifts. Building muscle requires muscle damage and a lot of volume, both of which do not apply to this type of program.

I will reiterate. Every aspect of your program should have the purpose of getting you closer to where you want to be, otherwise you’re wasting your time. You should know why you’re doing what you’re doing.

If you don’t know your “why”, you need to find out. Either do your research or find someone who does know who can guide you on the righteous path. (That’s where I can come in….*wink wink nudge nudge)

There are days when you feel like you have not made any progress at all... for the past few weeks the scale has not moved... not because i am doing anything different, if anything i have been way more active and doing more. But that is a normal thing that can happen, your body just says no and tries to hold on.  Over these weeks i still se alot of change in my body, less fat but gaining alot of muscles! And i love it! Even got scared when i could feel my ribs and shoulder bones for the first time in so many years! So right now my body is trying to fight my lifestyle change but i wont give up, in the pink i had lost about 20 kilos and in the purple that is today i have lost 56 kilos but still gained muscles! They are popping up in my arms, legs, back and even my belly! Who knew there were so many places to get them 😂 so i just keep going and know that my body will follow eventually if i am patient! But then it is good to have pictures to see 😂

1️⃣ 9 times out of 10 the candidate failing to lose weight on 1200kcals a day isn’t truly eating this DAILY 🤷🏼‍♀️

Living on very low calories can become unsustainable. In time this is often followed for a few days say Monday-Thursday before an episode of over eating prevails 🍕🍫🍰🍦which can be so extreme as to start on a Friday and continue until the Monday as the go to day to ‘get back on it!’ 💁🏼‍♀️
.
 If you were to stick to 1200kcals per day everyday you would more than likely lose weight but again this is rather extreme and cannot and should not be sustained not only for mentality but for optimum health 💀
.
2️⃣ Your body will always adapt to whatever the environment you put it in.
Your metabolism will down regulate to the number of calories you provide it with and the exercise you perform will no longer burn the number of calories according to your FitBit as you become very efficient at working in this environment🤦🏼‍♀️
.
3️⃣ Because of this down regulation your NEAT also decreases (non exercise activity thermogenesis).
As your body down regulates it will start to find ways to save energy.
Instead of getting up and being more active in your day you start to move, fidget, walk around less without even being conscious of it. Your gym session may burn 400kcals but you’d typically burn more per day with general activities but as you move less and NEAT reduces as does your calorie burn for the day and your exercise intend decreases.

4️⃣ Under reporting on calories.  This is huge! Are you truly weighing food gram for gram and logging everything in your calorie tracker and are you doing so correctly? The untrackables and and eye balling certain foods such as peanut butter can be detrimental to your caloric intake. This can be done consciously and unconsciously

5️⃣ You aren’t eating 1200kcals daily…

Do you snack throughout the day?
While there is some sort of hate towards snacking (be side it makes you fat apparently), I think snacking is not only fine but actually more beneficial than avoiding it for most people especially when looking to get lean, fit, and healthy. It stabilizes blood sugar levels while also allowing a constant and continuous influx of nutrients and fuel into your body throughout the day, making it easier on your digestive system to work effectively and efficiently while maintaining a good energy level. When it comes to building muscle, some of these snacks may need to be a bit more calorically-dense, but that doesn't mean pop tarts, donuts, cookies, and trash protein bars (not all are trash, but most). Here are some snacks I like to have: banana and peanut butter on toast (not only is it high in calories, carbs, fats, and protein, but there is almost no better combo than PB and banana, let's just lay that where it may), smoothies (I like to add bananas and dates along with protein and some chia seeds to up the calories and micronutrient content), apple and cashews (don't neglect getting in those healthy fats, but also fruit does not make you fat no matter what nonsense someone told you. If so...I'd be a whale), proats (a high carb and high protein meal that I think is best suited post-workout), homemade energy balls (because they are a little bit of a dessert let alone are very calorically-dense especially when made with a peanut butter and date base), and chia pudding (super high in healthy fats and protein, both required to build muscle). 3 MOST IMPORTANT THINGS FOR MUSCLE GAIN by @kruckifitness

There's lot of important things to think about when it comes to muscle building, but I often get asked what are the MOST IMPORTANT things to worry about when trying to add on some size. In my opinion, these are the 3 most crucial things you should keep in mind when you try to build some muscle.

(1) CALORIE SURPLUS: If you don't eat more calories than you're burning, then you're not going to get any bigger. You can lift well and sleep well, but if you aren't eating enough, you're already cutting yourself short of seeing any muscle growth. Aim for 16-18 calories per pound of bodyweight.

(2) PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD: Another crucial part of muscle growth is progressive overload, which is a term described as increasing your total training volume over time. You can do this by increasing weight, reps, or sets over time.

(3) GET ENOUGH SLEEP: Sleep is so important in either a muscle building or fat loss phase. Sleep is the best thing you can do to support muscle recovery. Try to get 7 hours of sleep a night minimum.

There's lot of important things to think about when it comes to muscle building, but I often get asked what are the MOST IMPORTANT things to worry about when trying to add on some size. In my opinion, these are the 3 most crucial things you should keep in mind when you try to build some muscle.

(1) CALORIE SURPLUS: If you don't eat more calories than you're burning, then you're not going to get any bigger. You can lift well and sleep well, but if you aren't eating enough, you're already cutting yourself short of seeing any muscle growth. Aim for 16-18 calories per pound of bodyweight.

(2) PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD: Another crucial part of muscle growth is progressive overload, which is a term described as increasing your total training volume over time. You can do this by increasing weight, reps, or sets over time.

(3) GET ENOUGH SLEEP: Sleep is so important in either a muscle building or fat loss phase. Sleep is the best thing you can do to support muscle recovery. Try to get 7 hours of sleep a night minimum.

🏁STARTING THE WEEK AS I MEAN TO GO ON🏁

Starting the week with a heavy #pushday this morning, the gym is more than just a place to train for me it's where I can mentally reset.  I was able to increase the weight of my lifts, probably could have gone heavier but it's all about being slow and steady and not crippling myself.  I struggle to set myself with shoulder presses when lifting heavy so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Finally, I got my first gym related injury this morning.  It was hit and miss for a while but I managed to survive.  I trapped my lil'pinky between a 22.5 DB and the wrack, got myself a blood blister which popped and now it's a bit bruised.

One of the biggest mistakes I made when I started lifting was going too hard too soon. I trained every single day for 3 weeks, and while I did build a little muscle, at the end of it all, I felt way too fatigued, I was always tired, and it was just too unsustainable to keep going forward. I took another 3 weeks off from the gym before I went back.

While the motivation to go to the gym constantly is a good thing, it's also a good thing to get proper rest. If you're not getting enough rest throughout the week, it's gonna be harder for you to build muscle over time.

This is why training splits varying from 3-6 days a week are great, you still get to go to the gym and make gains while getting the proper rest you need. Rest is SO IMPORTANT! Don't underestimate it!
