Building mental toughness. Mental toughness is a skill set, and practicing this skill must be incorporated into your training cycle in order for you to access it when it really counts on race day or on the not so ideal training day’s. There are a number of factors that contribute to mental toughness, for instance willingness, optimism and embracing the why and the how.⠀

As I embark on my marathon training, I am tapering until my half marathon which is next week and then jump up to one more long run at the end of the month... and then taper until my full marathon which is November 16.⠀

The upright rows purpose is to target the medial (middle) deltoid and upper traps.

📍It all boils down to execution and knowing your body. If executed properly and DO NOT CURRENTLY HAVE A SHOULDER IMPINGEMENT (SUBACROMIAL IMPINGEMENT), you can use this exercise safely. This exercise is especially useful for olympic lifters when they do a clean which is similar to an upright row.

📍Why The Upright Row Can Cause Impingement
When doing the upright row, your arms are internally rotated and raised above shoulder height which leads to a compromised position for the shoulder. Normally, when you raise your arm overhead, you shoulder naturally will want to go into external rotation to prevent impingement.
⠀
📍How to Avoid Impingement
According to the research, your arm will want to go into external rotation at about 60 degrees of arm elevation. Between 70 degrees to 120 degrees of elevation should be avoided so that impingement will not occur. If you happen to have shoulder problems, the higher you raise your arms, the more pain it will cause.
⠀
📍Execution
- Pull through the elbows, not through the wrists.
- Go up to or just below 90 degrees (shoulder height with elbows) so long as you don’t experience pain during or after the lift.
- If you have impingement or feel pain, don’t go as high. Reduce the height to where it feels comfortable. The key here is not to provoke your symptoms and make them worse.

📍Grip Width
Use a grip width that is 2 times wider than shoulder width. This will decrease the amount of arm elevation lowering the risk of impingement and also increase activation of the medial deltoid compared to having narrow, and shoulder width grip.
⠀
📍In my opinion, I would just avoid the exercise if you feel pain or are experiencing a subacromial impingement. The exercise is not worth the risk.

If you’ve ever felt the burn of an exercise or had the “pump” in the gym, then you’ve felt the effects of metabolic stress. Scientists used to question bodybuilders when they said the “pump” caused their muscles to become larger. After more investigation, it seems as though they were onto something.
- 
Metabolic stress causes cell swelling around the muscle, which helps to contribute to muscle growth without necessarily increasing the size of the muscle cells. This is from the addition of muscle glycogen, which helps to swell the muscle along with connective tissue growth. This type of growth is known as sarcoplasmic hypertrophy and is one of the ways that people can get the appearance of larger muscles without increases in strength.

For muscle breakdown and growth to occur you must force your muscles to adapt by creating stress that is different than the previous threshold your body has already adapted to. This is can be done by , continually changing your exercises so that you can damage more total muscle fibers and pushing your muscles to fatigue while getting a “pump.” After the workout is completed, the most important part begins which is adequate rest and providing ample fuel to your muscles so they can regenerate and grow.

How many meals should I have a day? ⁣

There’s no special amount of meals/snacks that’s gonna “boost your metabolism”. Stick to a number that is manageable and realistic for you and your own goals🔥. you may end up liking having 6 smaller meals a day, but in the end it’s up to you and what you like. I think people should strive for 3-5 meals/day to help keep you full and fueled throughout the day so you’re not hangry and lethargic. Plan ahead and think about what you’re going to be doing that day (work, exercise, lifestyle, special events, etc). Just try to reach your calorie, macronutrient, and micronutrient needs daily and you’ll be just fine! 🤓 ⁣

Lors de la flexion du coude "curl", il y a 3 muscles qui contribuent au mouvement :

➡️ Muscle brachial
➡️ Muscle brachioradial

Ces muscles sont les fléchisseurs du coudes.

Les muscles qui nous intéressent quand on parle du développement des bras (entre le coude et l'épaule) sont le biceps et le brachial. Bien que le brachioradial est important dans la flexion, son développement affecte uniquement le volume de l'avant bras (dû à son emplacement).
.
Le brachial qui compte tout de même pour pas loin de 20% du volume total du bras fait la flexion du coude tandis que le biceps qui a un volume légèrement plus grand fait la flexion mais aussi la supination. Donc si on veut recruter davantage les biceps on doit faire la supination pendant le curl.

Upped body focussed today and completed my cardio at the end rather than as my warm up. I read an article the other day that said a blast of cardio after weights can help speed up weight loss. I’m optimistic but will give it a go for a few weeks and see if I notice any change.

📝 I can’t stress enough how important it is to regularly tweak your exercises in order to keep progressing. A great way to tweak your bench press is switching from barbells to dumbbells regularly. But it doesn’t stop here. Just as vary grip width in the barbell bench press you can also adjust your dumbbell bench press by using different grips (supinated, pronated and neutral) as well as different arm angles. Even though you will always recruit all the relevant muscles that are involved in pressing, shifting arm angles (and grips) will make a difference regarding which muscle group gets more emphasis (which matters mostly in the lower position of the lift).⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
➕ When pressing around 70 degrees you will have a lot of emphasis on the sternocostal head of your Pectoralis Major muscle (= middle chest).⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
➕ When operating at an angle lower than 50 degrees emphasis shifts to the Anterior Deltoid, clavicular head of the Pectoralis Major (upper chest), and Triceps. Another benefit of this arm angle is an increased mobility of your shoulders in this position as well as less stress on these joints. This is why (dumbbell) bench pressing with smaller angles is a great way to keep pressing while having shoulder issues without increasing those issues further.⁣

Been training Nathan for a year now however with his demanding job and holiday travel his sessions have sometimes been scattered. I like to feel like I have a LIFE, and not cooking my days away. Just take sometime on a Sunday, and cut up all your ingredients and prep for the week to SAVE TIME

Breakfast: spinach omelette & 1/2 oatmeal, 1/2 banana + 1 fat burner
.
Lunch: 1/2 c beans, 1/2 c jasmine rice, 1/4 c pineapple + 2 digestive enzymes-helps with bloating, rice does that to me
.
Snack: blueberries & dragonfruit
.
Dinner: 3oz lemon pepper seasoned chicken breast, asparagus, cucumbers, brussels, 1/4 c pineapple
