Deciding what I’m going to bring on the trip to Quebec now because the Lord knows that if I don’t progressively pack throughout the week, I’m going to end up frantically packing moments before we leave.
It reminded me of something I realized a while ago - sizing up/gaining weight isn’t always celebrated...but I say, why not?! Fitness has the rep of being about losing weight and/or trying to be lean. And while this is a goal for many (which is totally okay), it’s not just about that. It’s also about gaining and being stronger.
I am at one of the heaviest body weights I have ever been in my life and slowly moving into being size medium. We are happy about this friends!! Except my wallet, because I keep having to buy new clothes, but that’s okay. More weight, more muscle, more gainz. Gaining weight is cool too ✌🏼

I've been getting lots of questions about how to determine your macros for muscle building. Well here's a little cheat sheet on how to do so.

So, let's say we're working with a 200 lb person. First, we need to determine calories before we figure out macros. For muscle gain, a good spot for a calorie surplus is your BW (lbs) x 16-18. So let's go in the middle and do 17 calories per pound. 200 x 17 = 3,400 calories. Now that we know the calories, we can determine macros.

PROTEIN: In a muscle gain phase, a good spot for protein is 0.8-1g per pound of BW. To make it easy, let's say they choose 1g per pound. Simply take 200 x 1. So they'll eat 200g protein.

FAT: For fat, a good spot to shoot for is between 0.3-0.4g per pound of BW. Let's say they go in the middle and choose 0.35g per pound. 0.35 x 200 = 70. So this person will consume 70g fat.

CARBS: This is where most people get stuck. To figure out carbs, just take the remaining calories you have, and divide it by 4, because there's 4 calories per gram of carbs. So we need to subtract out total calories from the other macros. There's 4 cals per g of protein, so we have 800 calories from protein (200g x 4 = 800). There's 9 cals per g of fat, so we have 630 calories form fat (70 x 9 = 630). So now, we do 3,400 - 800 - 630, which gives you 1970. 1970/4 = about 490g carbs.

Why are gymnasts so jacked?  Simple.  Exquisite body control and the use of exercises that pack a huge punch when it comes to hitting multiple muscles.  Check out this iron cross fly!  At first glance it seems to be a great chest exercise in the finish position (similar to the bottom of a dip). Swipe to take a look from the back however and it’s obvious how hard this hits the traps, teres major and lats!  After all, one of the main functions of the lats is to adduct the arms firmly into your sides.  The hold at the top of the iron cross is just downright brutal as well!  So in total, you’re looking at an exercise that is a hybrid push/pull and more importantly, capable of opening your eyes to the benefits this bad boy can deliver if you give it a try! To-Do-Listen haben einen enorm positiven Effekt: Du kriegst den Kopf frei❗ Unser Gehirn hat nämlich die Angewohnheit, in Endlosschleifen zu denken. Hast du zum Beispiel drei Dinge zu tun und denkst fünfmal an jede Sache („Ach, das muss ich heute unbedingt noch erledigen…“) – dann kommt es dir so vor, als hättest du FÜNFZEHN Aufgaben vor dir! Du fühlst dich gestresst und überfordert 😩. Schreibst du die drei Dinge auf, siehst du, dass es gar nicht so viel ist und dein Gehirn 🧠 muss auch nicht mehr pausenlos daran denken. Ein weiterer Vorteil von To-Do-Listen ist, dass sie dir jeden Tag viele kleine Erfolgserlebnisse verschaffen können. Um die volle Power von To-Do-Listen optimal zu nutzen, machst du Folgendes...:
➡️ Du nimmst dir einen kleinen Block und notierst dir am Abend die drei wichtigsten Aufgaben, die du am nächsten Tag zu erledigen hast. Am nächsten Morgen startest du direkt mit der schwierigsten Aufgabe (siehe Punkt 3 – der fetteste Frosch 🐸). Sobald du diese Sache geschafft hast, streiche den Punkt einfach komplett durch oder hake ihn ab. Danach hast du nur noch zwei Aufgaben vor dir.
Es ist jedes Mal ein wahnsinnig tolles Gefühl, wenn du schwarz auf weiß siehst, was du erreicht hast 💪. .

20lbs down in 23 weeks, and here is how I did it.

I focused on lifting weights. If you don’t, you’ll lose too much muscle tissue during your calorie reduction and set yourself up to gain a lot of weight back. If you just lose weight, you might get a bit smaller but you’ll still be soft.

I tracked calories meticulously every day. Yes it was tedious, but now I have a great idea of how I need to eat on a regular basis to keep the aesthetics that I’m looking for. If you don’t go through the struggle of learning about yourself, and what foods work best, then you’ll never change for the better.

I tracked my progress the whole time. I weighed myself every morning, and at the end of every week I averaged the number to see where I was at. If I didn’t lose the weight I was looking for, then I would make a very small dietary adjustment and see how the next week went.

I planned on losing it slow so the diet wouldn’t be so hard. It’s way easier to take away 100 calories a day and barely notice, than 500 a day and be hungry all the time.

Maybe your goal isn’t to be competition lean, but the same steps still hold true and can be utilized to create a leaner, healthier, more capable you.

C’est fou comme le corps, avec moins de contraintes, progresse tout autant ! Je suis beaucoup moins rigide et mes résultats sont très satisfaisants.

J’aime cette relation que j’ai avec le sport, mon corps et mon alimentation. Une relation de confiance avec beaucoup de bienveillance. J’écoute mes envies tout en me dirigeant vers des objectifs précis.

Je ne suis ni pressée, ni frustrée. Juste satisfaite. Satisfaite de me sentir bien. D’avoir une routine pertinente et à mon image. De m’écouter. Et de continuer à progresser.
