If you cant run anymore, then walk. But don‘t ever give up.

Just keep going. It‘s ok to slow down for a while, take a break... do what you gotta do just keep going and don‘t give up. Sometimes we gotta stop sprinting and just walk for a while... it is totally fine to do so. Just keep going forward.

UPPER BODY DAY

😴 Do you notice how a great session follows a Rest Day? For me it always happens!
.
🌪 Today's session was a full on upper body day! Not many people got in my way, the gym was quiet and I was feeling good!
.
🤓 So read on for the whole session plan. (These were all supersets)!

🔴 Wide Pull Up 5 x 3-5
🔴 Weighted Press Up 5 x 3-5
➡️ On both of these exercises I focus on a 2s negative, allowing me to focus on tine under tension as well as good positioning for the moves to follow
.
🔵 Single Arm Row 4 x 8-10
🔵 1 1/4 Incline DB Chest Press 4 x 6-8
➡️ Again, 2s on the negatives. I often focus on single arm rows from various angles as it's I feel it's an area easy to pick up injuries as a result of imbalances.
➡️ The 1 1/4 reps on the chest press increase demands on the chest AND improves positional strength

Many of us who begin a ketogenic lifestyle are very often coming from a carb (sugar) rich diet, suffering from Hyperglycaemia & Hyperinsulinemia, so a diet rich in protein maybe counter intuitive initially due to Gluconeogenesis.  A Low carb, high Fat diet is perfect as this as this helps improve Insulin & Glycemia.

Once we have improved Insulin & Glycemia it maybe beneficial to begin increasing our protein and Lowering our fat.
🔹
Protein is incredibly rich in nutrients, the amino acids in protein help build and repair the whole body... Not just muscle.
. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
Red meat in particular has an AMAZING amino profile, including Carnitine which is one of the 3 incredients that makes ketogenesis possible.

The other two being Low Insulin & Increased Glucagon.
🔹
As we age, our bodies require more and more protein to ensure growth, repair and help prevent deterioration. .
🔹
By neglecting protein, we are not supplying the body with sufficient nutrients leading to many side effects such as hair loss. Red meat also contains high volumes of Glycine. Glycine makes up the majority of Collagen which we all know helps improve hair, nails, skin etc.

Red meat also contains high levels of Lycine which helps the body fight off viruses.
🔹
Protein in a ketogenic lifestyle has been misunderstood for quite some time due to the fear of gluconeogenesis. (protein turning into glucose) this comes from a study preformed on a carb diet. When carbs are high and we introduce protein our insulin to glucagon ratio increases by as much as 2000%!! This is most definitely a reason to fear protein!....

HOWEVER... when on a low carb diet and we introduce protein, our insulin to glucagon ratio increases by only 6%!!! Meaning our insulin to glucagon ratio remains unchanged.

Saturday - High intensity/ skill work. -
All of the workouts have functional and stability focus to try and fix my glass back!

The only time you can get away with curling in the squat rack...... own your own gym 😂💪🏽. -

But if you are one of those people who want to be BETTER then I urge you to take a step back and isolate the variables that go against who you want to be. Then execute tf out of the day to day to get there. CHANGE is a prerequisite of progression. Period! Just be self-aware. It's not about comparing yourself to others, but doing what you can to reach your true potential. And it's a process that's going to take time so you just gotta enjoy the ride.

If you were to ask me to put my @ultraxco experience in a few words, I would say that it is one hell of a life changing trip! 
I did it for a cause and achieved my mission of raising a decent amount of money for @justworldinternational but, little did I know about what the rest of the race would hold for me! 
I would be lying if I said that winning the 7th place did not do my ego well. It was an instant shot of satisfaction to know that my hard work paid off!
However, this race marked me on another level. Below are raw, unedited thoughts & feels that I jotted down during the 5 days!

Running an ultramarathon is a lot like life - there will be many times during the run where you will want to give up and quit. There will also be times when you’re feeling on top of the world. There are ups and downs. Remember, it’s a long race so a setback doesn’t mean that you can’t get to the finish line.

Have fun - Be thankful!
Chat with your fellow runners because as much as we can learn about ourselves, we can also learn a lot from others.

Get yourself a good coach- 
Nothing is impossible if you train properly!
5 months ago I decided that I want to run my first Ultramarathon, so I spoke to @mjd_smith who had 1 answer, 4 runs/week and you’re good to go. Marcus is someone that I trust, he’s a positive and helpful person and believes in “winning”. He’s been there, done that. So, I trusted the process, never questioned it and never skipped a scheduled run no matter where I was. Not finishing the race was non-negotiable and for this I knew I had to work hard.

Last but not least, all of this could not have been possible without the tremendous support I’ve received! My super wife @aliasaleheid who was patient enough to understand my vision and cheer for me on every occasion without a doubt, my kids, whom I hope will look back one day and see me as an example, my family who supported me no matter what and the donors who trusted me & finally @mjd_smith who pushed me beyond my limits and the rest of the amazing @ifendurance crew!
I can’t also forget the incredible people behind the scenes who treated us and took care of our injuries and soreness! @exilemedics
