But the trouble is - you can't just keep cutting calories. There comes a point when your calorie intake is too low and it ultimately starts working against you. And it's a lot more common than you'd think. I've worked with several clients where I gave them a calorie target that was a lot (in some cases double) more than what they had been eating and guess what - they still lost weight.⠀⠀

If you're experiencing any of these symptoms and also a stall in your fat loss progress - you should really look at the amount of calories you're eating as well as the quality of those calories. Shrimp Spinach Bacon Alfredo 🍤

Ingredients (for 4 servings)
2 tablespoons oil
4 cloves garlic cloves, chopped
2 lb shrimp (910 g)
3 cups spinach (120 g)
½ onion, chopped
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 cups heavy cream (480 mL)
1 lb fettuccine pasta (455 g), cooked
6 slices bacon, cooked and chopped
1 cup parmesan cheese (110 g)
½ cup fresh parsley (20 g), chopped

Preparation
Heat oil over medium heat in a large pot.
Cook the garlic and the shrimp until the shrimp is pink, then remove the shrimp.
Add the spinach, onions, salt, and pepper, cooking until the onions are translucent.
Pour in the cream and bring to a boil.
Add the fettuccine, stir until the pasta is evenly cooked.
Mix in the cooked shrimp, bacon, parmesan, and parsley until the cheese is melted.
Enjoy!

2 weeks into my leaner legs protocol.  The scale says nothing’s changed.  But what’s more important than the scale?  The mirror test.

This is why I take progress photos, they are more motivating when nothing seems to be happening.  Sometimes the scale isn’t the best reflection of progress.

I can already feel people being triggered by this post as I type the caption that they won't read. I had an interaction on a post I made. My post referenced chocolate spread on toast instead of avocado and they took offence because chocolate spread is unhealthy.
Why? Because it "has sugar" and "sugar causes diabetes".
What made this funny was when asking for a better alternative for breakfast they posted recipes for smoothie bowls that contained twice as much sugar.

So lets look at the facts. Is sugar refined?
Yes, but it's processed from sugar cane (a plant).
Are these "natural" sugars, such as agave syrup, refined? Yes, they are processed from natural sources (albeit somewhat less).
So, all sugar is a "natural sugar"? Yep.⠀

Do the "natural" sugars have some trace elements of vitamins/minerals? Yes. Are they enough to have any impact on your health? No.⠀
⠀
So what happens when you eat "refined" sugar - well ultimately it gets broken down into glucose and fructose in your body. The exact same happens with "natural" sugar. ⠀
Now, because I mentioned the smoothie bowl above - people will inevitably bring up the fruit comparison. So let's be clear - fruit has a tonne of nutritional value. It also has sugar. Is it better to eat an apple instead of a spoon of sugar? Of course.
No one is saying that fruit is less nutritious. Will your body treat the sugar in the apple differently? No - it's still sugar.⠀

Finally - for those wondering, sugar doesn't directly lead to weight gain or diabetes. Foods with a high sugar content tend to be calorie dense and hyper-palatable making them easy to over eat. 2 ripe bananas⁣
2 eggs⁣
1 tsp vanilla extract⁣
½ cup quick-cook oats (70 g)⁣
½ cup blueberry (50 g)⁣

1 yellow bell pepper
1 red bell pepper
1 green bell pepper
1 teaspoon salt, divided
½ teaspoon cumin, divided
1 teaspoon smoked paprika, divided
1 ½ teaspoons chili powder, divided
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes, divided
4 portobello mushrooms
1 tablespoon oil
1 large white onion
3 cloves garlic, minced
3 cups brown rice (675 g), cooked
1 cup pico de gallo (240 g)
1 cup black beans (60 g), drained and rinsed
1 cup corn (165 g)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (100 g)
1 avocado, sliced
1 lime, sliced into wedges
fresh cilantro, for garnish

Preparation
Slice the stem off of the peppers so that they will stand steadily when flipped upside down. Slice the peppers into quarters from the bottom to the top around the core and seeds. Slice each quarter into 1-inch (2 ½ cm) thick slices. Transfer to a large bowl.
Add ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon cumin, ½ teaspoon smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon chili powder, and ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes. Toss to coat the peppers evenly in the spices and set aside.
Remove the stems from the portobello mushrooms and slice into 1-inch-wide (2 cm) pieces, then transfer a large bowl.
Add the remaining ½ teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon chili powder, ½ teaspoon smoked paprika, ¼ teaspoon cumin, and ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes. Toss to coat the mushrooms evenly in the spices and set aside.

They are focusing on probably the 80% of things they don't need to be doing, and missing the 20% of the things they do.⁣

No understanding of Energy balance, Calories, proitein, food volume, satiety,  just everything but.⁣
⁣
If they are making things SO hard for them why aren't seeing any progress?⁣
⁣
Simple.⁣
⁣
𝗪𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭.⁣
⁣
Picture this, you trying to sprint on Ice.⁣
⁣
It doesn't matter how much effort you put in, you won't be going anywhere fast.⁣
⁣
Then compare that to sprinting on the road.⁣
⁣
You put the same effort in, but you travel a lot faster, and get to where you want to be a lot quicker.⁣
⁣
Sometimes, its not the effort, or lack of, that you are putting in, but where you are putting it.⁣
⁣
It's just a case of tweaking where you are directing your focus.⁣
