If you set up the jerk incorrectly, you’re more than likely going to miss the lift. This goes for both snatch and clean as well- most coaches know if the lift will be a miss or a make- just by your first movement with the barbell. .
This is something I see often, and I did my best to replicate it. In the first video, the elbows drop and the torso comes forward. As the elbows drop, the weight shifts forward on the toes and the catch is then forward. It’s a domino effect. The forward lean in the torso led to a forward catch- and if you have any significant weight on the barbell, it’ll be really hard to save the lift. Sometimes this can be due to a lack of core strength or brace, mobility, or just poor positioning/technique. .
In the second video, the torso stays upright, weight on the heels, and the barbell stays vertical- stacked on top of the hips. Set yourself up for a successful jerk!

Practice a vertical dip by standing against a wall or stand on a plate with your toes off the edge. Point your toes slightly out- this will allow you to dip straight down without coming forward on the toes. .

Implementing an Upper Back Arch (Thoracic Extension) when bench pressing ensures 3 very important things, as you can see from the drawings: ⁣
⁣
1) SAFETY: By locking your shoulderblades back together and holding them there for the whole movement, you’re preventing yourself from getting injured in the shoulders area.⁣
⁣
2) STABILITY. Arching your upper back creates a strong “base” or muscle shelf where you can rest on, pushing your muscles against the pad. Glutes stay GLUED to the bench, and so do your feet. ⁣

STRENGTH: this is simply the strongest way to bench press. You might be thinking this isn’t that important, but you’ll be kicking yourself when you have to take 3 months off work with a herniated disk.

That does happen, it’s not that uncommon and it could happen to you, or any of us.

Totally avoidable if you do exercises relative to your skill level, along with doing them properly, under control.

There’s so much information out there now on how to do this, that there really isn’t any excuse.

Essentially, not smashing your joints beyond repair when you’re in the gym.

I really felt like doing some heavy squats instead of high reps. It felt way too heavy. I didn’t have my proper belt or my lifting shoes, so not really setup for success. 🤷‍♂️ I topped out at 365lbs. I did manage 3 plates for 8 reps, a long ways from my best but not terrible.

Longgg work day today but had to get my workout in. I’m a firm believer that If you want something bad enough, you will find a way to get it done. Regardless if you’ve worked 12 hours, didn’t get any sleep the night before, or just plain don’t feel like it. There will always be an excuse to use... but when you overcome that, you gain a lot more than just physical strength 🧠 .
