FACT: I never used to drink enough water … like ever. It was literally a joke among all my friends that I never had to pee. Lol why this was the case I am unsure, but I have turned things around in a big way!

A lot has contributed to me drinking more water over time … obviously a general awareness of its importance, but I have to say my health issues (especially over the last year - colitis, my skin, etc.) have changed the way I look at all the little, easy-to-make changes that can improve my health. Drinking enough water throughout the day is a no-brainer for me now, but I’ve also become more knowledgable + picky about the water that I’m drinking … anyone else?

When I’m at home, I use my @DafiUSA filtered, alkaline cartridge water pitcher, and when I’m out & about it’s this filtered bottle - perfect for when I’m on-the-go during the day or in a workout class. The filter is built in to the bottle, exchangeable & uses activated carbon from coconut shells. It’s also BPA free and obviously so much better for the environment than buying single use bottles (saves approx. 58 lbs of plastic per bottle annually!). We also love that it’s less than $15! Who else is picky about their water? Tell me your thoughts! xx #sssssweats

Do you ever feel like you’ve ruined all your progress because you’ve had one less nutritious meal that wasn’t planned for? 
I hear you! I’ve 🙋🏻‍♀️been there before. 
I would have a cookie 🍪, feel guilty 😩 then end up eating ½ the pack… And then I’d stress & beat myself up about it… which was probably doing me more harm than good. 
Research shows stress may wreak havoc on your metabolism... We’ve known for some time that stress is connected to weight gain, because a high level of the stress hormone cortisol has been shown to up appetite, drive cravings for junk food.  Let’s make things clear. There isn’t one single food on this earth that will make you gain weight. Its your TOTAL CALORIES overall. 
If you are consistently eating in a SURPLUS (more calories than your body is burning) than you will gain weight. 
If you are eating in a DEFICIT (eating less calories than you’re burning) than you will lose weight. 
It doesn’t matter if your eating salads 🥗or eating pizza 🍕its your overall calories intake. 
I🙋🏻‍♀️like to follow the 80/20 rule 80% of my foods are from whole 🥦 nutritious foods and 20% of my foods are from less nutritious fun 🍩 foods. 
All foods fit in moderation.

This is just a reminder: DON’T BE SO HARD ON YOURSELF.

Give yourself credit ✅ for the fact that you are trying to do better by leading a HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE.

This journey should be a fun one. 
One that actually makes you feel good 😌. Remember it’s what you do consistently that matter.

Starvation mode is this idea that if you reduce your calories, your body will go in to “starvation mode’, which will stop you from losing body fat no matter how low you drop your calories. The idea is that your body fights back and goes into this mode to help you survive.

This is not a thing.

You’re eating way more than you think you are, your calorie deficit is too aggressive, you do short periods of extremely low calories followed by periods of extremely high calories, you’re stressed and you’re not prioritising recovery modalities (sleep, meditation, getting out of the gym, cuddling puppies, relaxation etc.) Your body is not in starvation mode, you’re just not in the calorie deficit you think you are.

1️⃣ Soft Ankle Brace:  Used for light to moderate ankle sprains. (These are light in weight, durable, and can assist in stability during dynamic movements.)
2️⃣ Rigid Ankle Brace: Used for severe ankle sprains which require more stability. (These can be bulky, but restricts a lot of motion.)

Persimmons are a wonderful treat to look out for in your next trip to the Farmer's Market or grocery store. They are in full season during the Fall and if you’re lucky enough to live on the West Coast, they are readily found in markets well into December.

These beautiful, glossy, orangey-red fruit look like a cross between a plum and tomato. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the essence of persimmon enters the heart, lung and large intestine meridians. They have a sweet and astringent flavor as categorized by the TCM 5 flavors.

Wonderful to eat in the fall, they help prevent seasonal coughs and colds that often occur during the change in season. Their cold or Yin nature has the power to clear pathogenic heat and moisten the lung, promote the secretion of saliva and fluids, reduce internal bleeding and blood clots, aid the digestive system, help hangovers, and relieve thirst. Their iodine content can help goiter patients as well.
⚠️: since persimmons are considered a cold food, don't eat too many as they cause diarrhea, they are best eaten in the middle of the day.

In the Buddhist religion, persimmons are a symbol of transformation. In China, persimmons are an auspicious gift to newlyweds to celebrate eternal love and their genus name, diospyros, is Greek for “food of the gods.”

Persimmons are a wonderful treat to look out for in your next trip to the Farmer's Market or grocery store. They are in full season during the Fall and if you’re lucky enough to live on the West Coast, they are readily found in markets well into December.

These beautiful, glossy, orangey-red fruit look like a cross between a plum and tomato. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the essence of persimmon enters the heart, lung and large intestine meridians. They have a sweet and astringent flavor as categorized by the TCM 5 flavors.

Wonderful to eat in the fall, they help prevent seasonal coughs and colds that often occur during the change in season. Their cold or Yin nature has the power to clear pathogenic heat and moisten the lung, promote the secretion of saliva and fluids, reduce internal bleeding and blood clots, aid the digestive system, help hangovers, and relieve thirst. Their iodine content can help goiter patients as well.
⚠️: since persimmons are considered a cold food, don't eat too many as they cause diarrhea, they are best eaten in the middle of the day.

In the Buddhist religion, persimmons are a symbol of transformation. In China, persimmons are an auspicious gift to newlyweds to celebrate eternal love and their genus name, diospyros, is Greek for “food of the gods.”

Anemia in early, but not late, pregnancy was negatively associated with infant neurodevelopment, according to a Swedish registry study.
Among more than 500,000 children, those whose mothers had anemia within the first 30 weeks of pregnancy had increased risk of autism spectrum disorder (odds ratio 1.44, 95% CI 1.13-1.84), intellectual disability (OR 2.20, 95% CI 1.61-3.01), and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (OR 1.37, 95% CI 1.14-1.64) after adjustment for covariates, reported Renee Gardner, PhD, of the Karolinska Institutet in #Stockholm, #Sweden, and colleagues.

Watermelon radish, thinly sliced tuna and sea lettuce, with a dressing of black garlic, citrus, soy and sesame.⁠

The radish is so pink it's hard to distinguish from the tuna loin.  I love the colours here, and the flavour is a mix of that sharp tang from the black garlic that is almost like an old balsamico, and the savoury hit from the Asian style dressing. ⁠

If you ice the radish it firms up the texture so it's super crunchy. ⁠

A starter to share on a Saturday evening. ⁠

Fish oils, rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are one of the more commonly consumed supplements. The most common dietary source of omega-3 is oily fish. However, if like me, the only fish you eat is tinned tuna, battered cod from the chip shop, and the delicious little chocolate ones in Ben and Jerry's 'Phish Food', it might be worth considering a supplement.

Anti-inflammatory: Omega-3 is known to inhibit the COX-2 pathway, which is known to stimulate inflammation

Muscle Protein Synthesis: Omega-3 PUFAs can alter the cell membrane, modifying protein activities and potentially affecting adaptation. Although this has not been found when sufficient protein has been consumed, it is possible that Omega-3 PUFAs may increase MPS (and thus, increase muscle mass) if protein intake is suboptimal.

Immune Function- Omega-3 PUFAs have been shown to stimulate production of CD4 and CD8 lymphocyte production, improving the ability of immune cells to destroy a pathogen (and reduce risk of colds and infections). DOMS- Reductions in perceived pain, thigh circumference (measure of swelling/inflammation), and range of motion were all shown 48 hours post-exercise in those that consumed Omega-3. This could be due to inflammatory modulation as mentioned previously, or an increase in blood flow allowing nutrient delivery to the damaged muscle post-exercise, improving recovery.

With omega-3 supplements, you tend to get what you pay for. Buy cheap, it'll be poor quality and badly dosed.
It's also worth mentioning that they should be kept in a cool, dark place when opened to slow down oxidation.

Long time since I’ve posted something, but I’m still going to the gym. Not as much as before but a few times I week. Still in shape and healthy. Even though I had to take a 5 months break because of neck problems and then you can’t workout at all. So I’m going slow and focused, nothing too heavy. Getting back again faster than I thought. Just gotta keep going at it and don’t let anything stop you from reaching your goals. Healthy lifestyle is very important. Hope everyone is doing good!!! Had an amazing biceps/triceps workout today, and hoping for s🅾️re triceps tomorrow.  Really worked on the muscle/mind/slower movement thang, to get a betta pump.  Tried a new tricep move w/ a different cable grip thingy (❓😂), and loved it.  Swipe ⬅️ to last picture and see it.

Threw in some hip thrusts, Smith RDLs, and dumbbell transverses as well.

Also, sorry for all the tricep pics, but I was super proud of my weaker left arm’s tricep pump today, plus she needs to love and attention too....🤪🤣😂

3.5 miles of run/walk Intervals. Burned over 800 calories 🔥 and I can’t even muster a smile of relief it’s over because the sweat is in my eyes and it stings 😂😩 But I am glad I did it. #consistency is truly what I am striving for because in time I know I can do all the things.
