Why is it so easy for some women to get pregnant and so freaking hard for others?!!

Honestly, you'd have to talk to the big man upstairs or whoever your believe is running this circus for the real answer. But I'll give you my 2 cents...

You can look at it two ways.
Option 1: Your body is broken.
Option 2: You're just more sensitive.

Obviously Imma go with option 2 . And no I don't mean emotionally sensitive (although that seems to come with the infertility territory too 😑) I mean sensitive to your environment.

The foods you eat, the home you live in, your stress levels, your relationships, etc. Some of us are just more in tuned to internal and external shifts than others.

What is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome ( PCOS)Thank you @thismorning for raising the subject. PCOS affects up to 1 in 5 women and characterised by irregular periods, acne, excess body hair due to hormonal imbalance and insulin resistance. It can affect ability to conceive and can cause a lot of anxiety and low mood when women are trying for a baby. Women also find it hard to lose weight.  Blood tests and an ultrasound can help diagnose it and there are treatment options and counselling out there but first do try to lose some weight, have a low GI diet and exercise to naturally get a hormonal balance. Women can also experience similar symptoms in Perimenopause because of hormonal fluctuations and insulin resistance - often called metabolic disorder.

How do you invest in yourself, your health, and your wellbeing?

For me, it’s therapy. At the moment, I’m working hard at understanding how to manage my energy so that I don’t burn out. This is something I struggle with A LOT! I know I’m not alone - millennials are the burnout generation and women experience burnout at much higher rates than our male counterparts. Burnout is emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion thats brought on by chronic stress. It’s constant overwhelm and can have some real serious ramifications.

Over the years, I’ve come to understand that if I’m over committed, overstimulated, or if I don’t have enough me-time, my mood, anxiety, and energy suffer - all of which impact my hormones, nutrition choices, and my general ability to thrive. So, while I’m getting back into my groove, I’m focusing on compassion, kindness, and respect for my energy. Im focusing on sustainable behaviors and consistency rather than full steam ahead. I’m focusing on productive rest and gratitude.

First, seed cycling is the practice of rotating seeds that you consume based on your menstrual cycle. The theory is that the seeds consumed at each phase help to support the building or clearing of the hormones related to each phase. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Day 1 of bleeding to ovulation (Day 1 to 14 if on a 28-day cycle), consume  about 1 tbsp. each of freshly ground flax and pumpkin seeds. This combination is thought to regulate estrogen levels, which are higher during the first half of your cycle. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
From ovulation until your bleeding phase (Day 14 to 28  if on a 28-day cycle), consume about 1 tbsp. each of freshly ground sesame and pumpkin seeds. This combination is thought to support our progesterone levels, which increase during the second half of our cycle. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While there is little research to show that seed cycling is the magic period pill we've been hoping for, there is never any harm in getting extra minerals & fibre from these little guys. Plus, if you are someone who hopes to get more in touch with your menstrual cycle, this can be an easy place to start!

PRO TIP - buy clothes that FIT your body and not to “motivate you to lose weight”

It was only last year that I refused to let go of all my old clothes. I would tell myself that I would fit into them again when I got my health back. That I NEED to be a size 0 again... Well, we did a little shopping this past weekend and I did not let the size on the tag bother me anymore. It may sound so silly but I understand the fear of trying on a pair of pants that used to be your size only to not have it slide up your ass anymore 😆

It’s the same fear I have when I go to the doctors office and they weigh you. Or when you see your relatives and they give you that “ohh...hi dear, have you put on some weight??” I’ve struggled with these thoughts the past couple of years but now I know that that person instilling these fears... is myself.

Sooo let’s all remember, YOUR WEIGHT DOES NOT REFLECT YOUR HEALTH 👏🏼👏🏼 do NOT let the size of your jeans or the number on the scale affect your day! Our bodies/weight can change from month to month, season to season, and as we get older, our metabolism will likely go down a little bit and that is ok!

In a small pot/pan, add almond milk, coconut milk, tart cherry juice, honey, vanilla, ashwagandha, and salt. Whisk until combined. Heat over medium until simmering. Remove from heat and add lavender. Cover with lid and let steep for 5 minutes. Pour into mug over a strainer to remove the lavender. Blend in blender if you prefer the drink more foamy.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It’s been 30 days since I posted about my postpartum hair loss.

As a recap, this is what I did in hopes to stop shedding and get some regrowth for 30 days. * Take @maryruthorganics liquid multivitamins (the blend for hair and nails) * Take liquid iron * Take @vitalproteins Marine Collagen * Castor oil hair masks daily * Continue to eat well and focus on a nutrient rich diet

I can not believe how quickly I started to see results. With in the first week I saw little sprouts and now I have about an inch or more of regrowth and more little sprouts coming up. I am finding I’m not shedding as much too. I’m definitely super excited that I was able to fix this imbalance naturally.

Side note: I applied the castor oil on my brows and lashes and liked those results too. I’m definitely a fan of the castor oil except for how sticky and thick it is. You might want to sleep with a wide headband or shower cap. I really didn’t think this would help but after seeing my brows fill in and lashes thicken up too I’m a believer in this stuff. This is the one I bought on amazon. Only $9! Moving forward, I’ll only do the mask a couple times a week *This is not medical advice*

Once upon a time I had a severe case of HPA axis dysfunction, but didn't know it.  The constipation, bloating, fatigue, and anxiety was nearly unbearable, isolating and lonely.  And despite being on birth control, I completely lost my period. FOR TWO YEARS.

I didn't want to address the fact that I was underweight, under-eating, + over-exercising.  Because no matter what I did, no matter what anyone else told me - I couldn't stand the sight of what I saw in the mirror.  The body dysmorphia, orthorexia, and binge eating was severely affecting my hormones, gut health, + mental state.

But I ignored it.

I thought it would just magically get better. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I thought that not having a period was a sign that I was "elite", like athlete status, not realizing that it was my body actually telling me something was horribly wrong, shutting off unnecessary functions to save energy.🔥

Fast forward a few years and I was finally able to reverse the adrenal fatigue and re-balance my cortisol levels, but it took WORK.

This chronic stress state is the number one driver of SO many conditions, especially autoimmunity.  Sometimes the stress is so bad that it throws your whole system into a lifelong condition. And often, medications are a bandaid to treat the SYMPTOMS rather than addressing the underlying cause: inflammation.

Inflammation from SIBO, candida, leaky gut, bacterial imbalances, toxin exposure... it's all around us.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I spent a LOT of time + energy trying to resolve my own health problems but one supplement or fancy fad after another wasn't the solution.  The solution was WITHIN me.  My body was literally screaming for help and I chose to ignore it.

My number one piece of advice is to start your healing process working from the INSIDE OUT.  Get the tests and learn what's going on in your body.  Avoid inflammatory foods.  Manage your stress DAILY.  Look for the ROOT CAUSE and know that sometimes (NOT ALWAYS) medications can just mask your symptoms.

My number one piece of advice is to start your healing process working from the INSIDE OUT. Get the tests and learn what's going on in your body. Avoid inflammatory foods. Manage your stress DAILY. Look for the ROOT CAUSE and know that sometimes (NOT ALWAYS) medications can just mask your symptoms.

Day 257🥩 Dinner 8PM. Ribeye, egg yolk, small piece of oxtail, raw suet bits, crispy fat bits and butter. Actually we seared a ribeye and a rump steak and split that between me and my husband. The rump was better😊...cooked almost rare😋. Short walk tonight (walk no.127 - just 30 min) as very windy outside and still felt quite tired😳. I really need to take my sleep more seriously...my circadian rhythm is so out of whack...it's always been😕.But I think it keeps me from truly experiencing all the benefits I can get from this WOL (way of living). Was listening to stephanieketoperson on youtube today @stephanieketogenic ....and she's pointing on some important issues regarding hormones, thyroid, fasting, adrenals, fat intake and how important is to do a carnivore/keto diet properly, especially for women... to prevent damaging our metabolism&co. further. She is right in so many ways. I've been reading ketogenic forums and topics for years and people still don't talk about the nasty issues some might encounter with keto...like increased blood sugars, hypoglycemia, thyroid imbalances, dehydration, tiredness, adrenal damage. I haven't experienced these myself but people should know about these "negatives" too and adapt their keto/carnivore regimen accordingly. Ladies specifically....check her interview with @carnivore.yogi on YouTube. I think it will be helpful for avoiding unpleasant issues long term. You can make decisions yourself on what's best for you but it's never a bad thing to hear the perspective of a lady who's done keto/carnivore for 12 yrs and speaks about the less desirable effects as well+coaches a lot of people.😊 Let me know if you find it interesting or intriguing. Making the menu work for me.  Grilled chicken breast and some cottage cheese.  I know, know, no veggies.  But I have no appetite right now (overly stressed day at work) but need to at least eat some protein, just got done with an angry hour long workout.  So going with my favs hoping it would help it go down. I had to feed the kid, he was about to eat the car dash. Lol.

🩸AUDIT YOUR LAST PERIOD OR CYCLE 〰️ First, mark on a calendar when your last period was as well as the length of time + any symptoms you remember. I highly recommend using an app like Myflo to begin to chart the length of your cycle & look out for trends, etc. An ideal cycle is anywhere from 28-32 days, w/ blood the color of deep red cranberry juice during menstruation, a flow of 4-7 days, strong but w/o clots or so heavy you're bleeding through products every other hour & void of any pain that would make you reach for midol or a hot water bottle. Once you've completed your audit, you can address root causes + then begin adopting a cycle syncing practice. ⠀

🩸ADDRESS SYMPTOMS + ROOT CAUSES 〰️ If you're taking hormonal birth control (read below for more on that) or have hormonal imbalances that show up in the form of PMS, heavy cramping, painful periods, cysts, or fibroids, endometriosis, PCOS, breakouts, swelling or bloating, etc. these are root causes of an irregular cycle + will need to be addressed first. Often times following a cycle syncing practice can really help (more on that below), but if you're suffering this is not normal. - carrots
- turnips
- onions
- beets
- radishes
- fennel
- garlic
- ginger
- rutabaga
- celery root

Try to mix up the colors to get different natural nutrients! 🌈 Multi color carrots are great to play with because the flavor changes depending on the color! Saute with a little white wine and oil or butter for a yummy colorful side dish.🍲🥘🍛

I have been seeing a lot of patients struggling with anxiety recently so it was only fitting that I discuss it.

Anxiety is tricky. It’s a word I hear thrown around a lot in a very casual manner. And I think that is because feeling anxious is a feeling that the majority of us have experienced. Waiting for those three dots to become a text, or for your plane to land safely. Maybe walking into an event where you know no one. Or sitting in traffic with a car full of kids who have pushed you to your breaking point.

This is not the anxiety I am taking about. I’m talking about full blown panic stricken. Your chest is super tight, your stomach is inside out, you can’t breathe, you feel like you are going to die. I have experienced a panic attack or two so I get it.  BUT anxiety can also look like, a chronic feeling of anxiousness that never seems to leave. The anticipation of something happening but it never actually happens. Being on the edge of your seat.... all the time.

That is anxiety. And anxiety is NOT normal. It may be super common but it is NOT normal to feel this way. It’s debilitating. It can uproot your life. It can affect and alter relationships. And it can cause you miss out on a WHOLE lot!

Anxiety and your gut are intimately connected. This is the gut brain connection. The gut brain connection means that what is happening in your gut could be affecting your brain - your mood, fears, compulsions, and thoughts. You can not separate the two.  If you have anxiety you probably have something going on in your gut!

That being said the gut is not the only place you should look. Anxiety is present because you have some underlying inflammation. You might have toxicity or some deficiencies. It might be hormone related. You might have inflammation affecting your nervous system.

Sitting down with someone like myself who uses @thewellnessway approach is going to help you narrow down why you have anxiety and then make a plan to eliminate it.

That is anxiety. And anxiety is NOT normal. It may be super common but it is NOT normal to feel this way. It’s debilitating. It can uproot your life. It can affect and alter relationships. And it can cause you miss out on a WHOLE lot!

Anxiety and your gut are intimately connected. This is the gut brain connection. The gut brain connection means that what is happening in your gut could be affecting your brain - your mood, fears, compulsions, and thoughts. You can not separate the two. If you have anxiety you probably have something going on in your gut!

That being said the gut is not the only place you should look. Anxiety is present because you have some underlying inflammation. You might have toxicity or some deficiencies. It might be hormone related. You might have inflammation affecting your nervous system.

Sitting down with someone like myself who uses @thewellnessway approach is going to help you narrow down why you have anxiety and then make a plan to eliminate it.
