I talk a lot about why strength matters for fat loss - it will improve your physique, add lean muscle, and prepare you best to workout at a high intensity without incurring an injury or burning out.⁣

On the left we have Cardio Cathy. Lots of cardio, A little lifting. The lifting is very high rep, bootcamp-style classes that don’t allow for progressions and are focused on how many calories you burn and feeling like you’re dying at the end.⁣

You don’t have to workout that way. Very challenging, intense workouts have their place. But strength should be a focus most of the time.⁣
⁣
On the right is a process through which I will take most of my clients. We go through a learning phase - focusing on moderate weights, learning new exercises, teaching the nervous system to turn on the right muscles, and using proper form. Progressing in weight during this phase is important, but not at as important as learning and form.⁣
⁣
Phase 2 involves an intense focus on strength. Intensity increases, and the goal is to get stronger. Like, A LOT stronger. Strength will tie into every other facet of fitness - including muscle gain, injury prevention, flexibility, coordination, stability - and most definitely fat loss.⁣
⁣
Phase 3 focuses on fat loss - with moderate weights and higher reps. Now you’re stronger, more stable and able to lift much heavier even in higher rep ranges. The heavier weight you can lift, the more calories you burn, the more fat you burn, the more muscle you gain, the more intense your workout, you get the picture. ⁣

You don’t get that from focusing on cardio and chasing the “I’m sweaty and dying” bootcamp/metcon style classes.⁣

As you all know(or hopefully do 🙂) there is no magic to fat loss. There's no magic pill, no magic food, and no magic fruit. That being said, there is food that can indirectly help you create a calorie deficit. In very simple terms, a calorie deficit is when the total calories you burn throughout the day (total daily energy expenditure) is more than the total calories you consume. Fruits that are high in water content can help promote a calorie deficit as they can help with satiety, which means you are more likely to consume less calories. Plus, most of these are fairly low in calories as well.

1⃣ Know fat loss kcal/macros & design a daily nutrition routine where you fast + eat 2-3 simple & balanced meals in a calorie deficit. Save your biggest meal for when you have time, probably at night?⁣⠀

❌Eating 5-6 times a day⁣⠀
❌Eating complicated meals with tons of ingredients⁣⠀
❌Changing up your eating routine daily.⁣⠀
.⁣⠀
You don't have time for this shit.⁣⠀

2⃣ Plan meals every Sunday using MyFitnessPal. The more often you eat the same thing (3+ days min), the easier for you. Do NOT improvise food daily, you'll make it very hard for nothing.⁣⠀

3⃣ Do some meal prep on Sunday &/or Wednesday. You don't have to prep meals, just batch-cook key ingredients (2 proteins + 2 carbs + container of veggies). It only takes 45-75 min & will save you HEAPS of time + headaches down the road.⁣⠀

4⃣ Lift weights 2-3x/week. Don't bite more than you can chew & go follow a 5-day training routine when you KNOW it's going to be challenging to stick to it. You're BETTER OFF following a 2-day routine & making every workout than a 5-day routine & skipping 2!⁣⠀

5⃣ Keep workouts short & intense: 45-min full body workouts with 3-4 compounds + 1-2 isolations are ALL you need to do great. You can superset exercises and/or shorten rest periods to save more time...if you know what you're doing.⁣⠀

6⃣ Don't bother hitting the gym just for cardio...it would be a pure waste of your time. The amount of calories you'll burn is just not worth the trouble. Instead, stay as active as you can DURING the day. Take short breaks from the computer to walk around the block & skip the elevator!⠀

So this is my best friend @alexemmoore and today she is a visual of how much I’ve lost in weight.....( 😬yep I’ve lost a whole person in weight 😬) which scares me to think about it in that way. ————————————————————————
I do love a visual and I’m simply posting this in a bid to motivate anyone who may be starting their weight loss process! Maybe thinking of making some healthy improvements in their life. Or maybe you feel that you’ve hit the wall a little. Honestly yes it’s hard work but it’s something that we’re all capable of 🤩
Yes it’s hard work  and there will be times when you want to quit but if you want it then you must KEEP GOING 💪🏻 A positive mental attitude and determination with always get you to where you want to be 👍🏻
