German Volume Training (GVT) has been around for a long time. It’s been used by bodybuilders and athletes to pack on added muscle
.
The formula is quite simple. Pick 2 compound movements that are opposing each other (ie chest and back) and alternate them doing 10 reps of each back to back and taking a 90 second break afterwards. Repeat this 10 times. Once you can achieve 10 x 10 of an exercise, add about 5% more weight the next time you do it. Straightforward way of getting in a lot of volume and utilizing progressive overload. After you’re done, you can add a few exercises for each body part and do 3-4 sets of 10 reps of each. Simple and efficient workout.

German Volume Training (GVT) has been around for a long time. It’s been used by bodybuilders and athletes to pack on added muscle

Today I did my first day of GVT and it was no joke 😬 I train in the morning before work and only have 3 days to train this week so I superset my chest and back. Needless to say my whole upper body is destroyed 😵

Chest and back workout:
Superset 60% of 1RM
Incline Bench 10x10
Deadlift 10x10

Superset body weight 
Dips 10x10
Pull ups 10x5

Extra credit 
85% 1RM
Flat Dumbbell bench 3x5

Superset 70% 1RM (slow reps)
Incline dumbbell fly into press 3x10
Bent over dumbbell row 3x12

Como dito no post anterior, esse tipo de treino consiste em realizar dez séries de dez repetições.As flexões já são suficientes para ativar tanto seu peito quanto seu tríceps.Porém, depois desse treino, se ainda sentir necessidade de trabalhar mais o tríceps você pode fazer algumas séries de flexão com o braço bem próximo ao seu corpo.

So today was legs!! Normally I'd be using leg extensions, leg press bit of cables butttt with limited equipment I went back to basics... Sort of... I only did three exercises but it really fuck em up I decided a bit of German volume training was in order.

GVT was invented in, you guessed it, Germany In around the mid 70s and used by powerlifters and bodybuilders to pack on size quickly!

You pick a weight around 60% of your 1 rep max and do ten sets of ten reps with only around 90seconds rest between. The idea is that you overload your muscles both slow and fast twitch fibers to force growth.

I’ve always felt breathless, irritable and exasperated during German body comp (GBC) training. A sign my body lacks the conditioning required for this rep range/rest interval combo. And also precisely the reason I’ve been implementing GBC for over a week now.

The camber allows for the weight to swing, turning the grip location into a rotational axis. This provides some slight instability in the movement which forces a slow, controlled execution of the lift.  A slow, controlled movement translates to a harder, focused contraction of your pecs and this is facilitated even more through the concept of muscle irradiation...

Here’s a killer Wednesday workout for you guys. When you don’t have access to the gym or are limited to lighter weights than usual, like we might currently be, GVT (or German Volume Training) is an awesome method to use. Working on the principle of 10 sets of 10 reps this style of strength training proves hard enough, but combine that with insufficient rest and this full body workout should have you aching for days.

Complete 10 sets of 10 reps of each exercise with a STRICT 45 seconds rest between sets. Complete all 10 sets on one exercise before taking a STRICT 2 mins rest before moving to the next exercise.
.
Use what weights you have available - dumbbells, barbell, kettlebell, backpack etc - and concentrate on keeping each rep slow and controlled.
.
If you’ve got the energy, finish off with a Tabata, 20 secs on 10 secs rest repeated 8 times (4 mins total), for each of the last exercises! Again, complete all 8 rounds on one exercise before taking a STRICT 30 secs rest before moving onto the next exercise.

How to make home workout work for you! ⁣

If you are a regular gym goer, body builder or Olympic lifter it’s going to be very difficult to replicate the intensity of your workouts at home with little to no equipment. ⁣
⁣
The majority of us who aren’t in these categories can still do good workouts at home. Your body doesn’t know what exercises it’s doing all it knows what load it is under. ⁣
⁣
Here are a couple of things you can add in to your home workouts to challenge you:⁣
⁣
✨Time under tension - change the tempo on each exercise. For example a ratio 4:1:4 - in a bicep curl 4 seconds up, pause, 4 seconds down. ⁣
✨ Add in a pause or pulse rep, for example add a pause or pulse at the bottom of a squat. ⁣
✨Add more volume or frequency to your workouts. For example, German volume training (10X10) or train more frequently.⁣
✨Decrease rest in between sets - try a 45 second rest period. 8 sets 45 seconds rest. Choose a weight you can complete 15 reps. Keep the weight the same for all 8 sets. Will feel easy at first and then will get harder 💪🏻⁣

You would pretty much have to be on bed rest for the next 12 weeks to lose any significant muscle mass. Working out 2-3 times a week alongside a walk or run is going to be fine to maintain what you have. ⁣

Don’t feel like you have to train everyday (unless you want to), don’t feel guilty for not doing anything we are in the middle of a pandemic after all! ⁣

Home German volume Training Session. Being at home and not having access to a gym can prove difficult when trying to build or even maintain muscle gained from consistently going to a gym. My favourite workout to do at home if limited equipment is available is a session called German Volume Training or GVT. Put simply, it’s essentially doing 10 sets of 10 reps with 1 minute rests in between. Here I’m choosing to do a Bulgarian split squat for my lower body and bicep curls for my arms. Because you’re getting high volume in a short space of time you should be pushing your body to failure, especially during the second half of the 10sets. If you’re not l, I’d suggest slowing down the reps on the eccentric and isometric phases which I demonstrate in the video, doing a 3-2-1 tempo. Also focus on getting a full range of motion and being strict on your 1min rests. I would hope you get DOMS (delayed onset of muscle soreness) after doing this session and that will be your indicator if you’ve worked hard enough creating muscle micro tears and therefore achieve that building/maintaining goal. Double feature today boys and girls, other half of my lift was pull-ups set of 10 reps, then 10 burpees, 10 total sets! HOMEWORKOUT NUMBER 6 🙌🏼 So guys here’s another home workout to try keep everyone active! 
Tough one ahead - German Volume Training - so this circuit is only 4 exercises however you’ll be completing 10 sets of 10 reps working upper and lower! 
Exercises:
Burpees 
Squat Jumps
Push Ups - 3 second hold at the bottom 
Squats - 3 second hold at the bottom 
You can either do 10 sets of the first exercise and then move on to the next or complete all 4 exercise and move on to your next set

10 reps each exercise - 10 sets each exercise - 3-5 minutes rest

That’s not a lot of rest. One of the rules is that you can’t lower the weight, so choose your weight wisely. It gets heavy real quick. You can do just one or two exercises, but I chose four. I also used my calendar to keep track of which set I was on. Here was my circuit:

•Dumbbell Front Racked Squats (you can see me die inside)
•Banded Lat Pulldowns
•Pushups
•V-Ups with a v-sit hold at the end
•VICTORY STRUM (guess that tune!)

This type of training makes people gain a lot of mass really quickly. So if that’s your thing, go for it! Definitely do more research before you commit, because German Volume Training is particularly challenging for anyone. If you do it, have something to help you record which set you’re on. Otherwise you’ll lose track! And don’t forget your victory strum!
