When it comes to salmon, if it's not wild, you may be doing more harm than good.

Not only does farmed salmon carry a heavier toxic load, but it also boasts a less favorable omega-6 to omega-3 profile compared to its wild counterpart.

Wild salmon get their red color from a fat soluble carotenoid called astaxanthin, a antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound. Farmed salmon lacks this compound and has to be supplemented with various feed in order to obtain the orangish color you see at the market.

Of the many reasons to consume wild-caught over farm-raised salmon, the one we will focus on is polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) content.⁣
⁣
Independent lab testing by the EWG of farm-raised salmon from factory-scale operations showed that 7 of 10 farmed salmon samples were contaminated with concerning levels of PCBs.⁣
⁣
Although PCBs were formerly used in industrial processes, the UN Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, signed by President Bush at the turn of the 20th century, slated PCBs for global phase-out.⁣
⁣
A type of POP that is difficult to excrete due to its ability to accumulate in fat tissue, PCBs constitute mixtures of up to 209 different components, which vary depending on the number and position of chlorine atoms around the biphenyl ring.⁣
⁣
PCBs are potent immunosuppressants, and act as tumor promoters that up-regulate the carcinogenicity of other cancer-causing substances. ⁣
⁣
Exposure to PCBs during critical early life junctures has been shown to alter behavior and reduce IQ, suggesting detrimental developmental effects.⁣

In men and women, PCBs elevate risk of:⁣
⁣
✔️ thyroid dysfunction⁣

When we are in a state of perceived stress, which the average adult can be in 30+ times a day on average, we co-elevate insulin levels as a survival mechanism.

This hormonal cascade is the equivalent to eating a cupcake 🧁without actually eating it 😫.

How many cupcakes 🧁 did you eat this week 😬?

Over time we develop cravings for salty 🍕 and sweet foods 🍩due to this powerful metabolic hormone cascade.

One of biggest detriment to the optimum functioning of our body is sympathetic dominance caused by chronic perceived stress and overwhelm 😫.

Sympathetic dominance impedes our ability to function and think straight and it messes with our metabolism.

How about this Fullness hack!! Simple ways to keep you satisfied for longer whilst a sustainable minor deficit in calories.
My friend @collegenutritionist with the 📷❤️✌🏽

Instead of the breakfast on the left - with no fat & very minimal protein.
👉🏼Just make the simple swap of 1/2 a cup of oatmeal (instead of a full cup) and adding a Tablespoon of peanut or almond butter 🍯 or raw nuts.

Additionally, if you want more protein add whey or a plant based alternative into the mix which is what I would typically do if I wanted oats.
The oatmeal here in cups is in dry amounts (so 1 cup dry vs. 1/2 a cup dry) - when you cook oatmeal the volume doubles, so don’t worry that you’re not getting enough food!

Making a sea vegetable soup  was a easy choice for dinner. Sea vegetables usually come in dehydrated packages, making them easy to add to soup + broths.

Most practices found their origin in something incredibly helpful and beneficial and then got mutated for profit with added fragrances and chemicals that were not compatible with health.

So my answer is YES, if you do it the old way :-) Post-menses, a Triphala tea brew can be douched vaginally and is incredibly cleansing and rejuvenative to the vaginal lining. It is antioxidant rich and can pretty much be used everywhere including in the eyes as an eyewash, and drinking it internally, and it works its magic. 
I buy the organic powdered herb and add it to a pot of boiled water, let it steep for five minutes, strain it through a fine mesh strainer or coffee filter, and then add it to the douche when it is at body temperature.

Many women experience a propensity to vaginal dysbiosis around their menses due to a progesterone-dominant state leading up to menses. I find that a healing douche is a great reset in such situations and it also helps clear out any residual menstrual fluid so that there isn’t prolonged spotting. For me that means being able to get back to my agni hotra practice sooner :-)

Last nights Thai street food eats were authentic and really hit the SPOT🔥I got the chicken pad thai (bottom) and we shared the veggie steamed dumplings! Khao moo dang pictured on the bottom. Very low key restaurant but had a nice cozy vibe and the food certainly didn’t skimp 🙌🏼 definitely recommend 💯 casual but authentic and fresh eats are my all time FAV lately. And when I say lately, I really mean all the time...

I don't know about you, but I LOVE Mexican food...Specifically tacos. UC put a damper on visits to my favorite Mexican place, @themariachigrill ...As I went through my healing journey at @nutritiontreatmentcenter , we began to delve into alternative options..My better half did some research and now we have a breakthrough...Our version of IBDelicious Taco Night! 
Recipe(serves 2 people ~2 tacos each)
2 packages of raw chicken tenderloins--1 pack would do if its just 'one dinner but we like using this leftover during the week!
1 package of @sietefoods cassava flour tortillas(Gluten free!)
1 red onion
3 cloves garlic
1 cup jasmine rice
Poultry herbs(Fresh, including rosemary, thyme, sage, oregano)
1 avocado
1 lime
Salt&pepper
Olive oil
Handful of cilantro, spinach 
Prep process
1) Boil 1 cup jasmine rice as instructions dictate.
2) Dice onion,garlic&herbs

Cooking

1) Grill chickens, liberally olive oiled( Get the grill to about 500, closed grill, prior to placing meat down to get the sear, then lower to have it about 450ish to cook), adding the onions and herbs after ~10-12 min to cook for ~5min..Total cook time ~20 min. 
2) As chicken cooks, place the tortillas in tin foil , wrap them and place them on the top shelf of the grill to warm.

3) Simple Guac: Remove the contents of a ripe avocado, compost or discard skin and seed. Next, add finely diced red onion(which can be separated from.the bulk of onions prior to their going on the grill). Continue with the juice of half a lime and a pinch of coarse himalayan pink salt if available or sea salt also works. Combine until smooth, place in fridge.

4) Remove cooked items from grill, shred chicken, leaving any chicken you'd like to save off the side. Mix in cooked onions&garlic. Take out your favorite toppings( We love tahini, raw fermented saurkraut, spinach and I tried shredded carrots this evening!) 5) Layer your tacos and enjoy!! I enjoy butter. I also enjoy coffee. Putting the two together with MCT oil creates a “fat coffee”. Putting butter with food creates magic 🤩

I also enjoy food and as a cook I know that the addition of butter to any food improves taste significantly but also improves nutrient absorption such as protein and Polyphenols and vitamins etc.

Adding copious amounts of refined fats which essentially butter and coconut oil are is the same thing as adding refined sugars but difference in macronutrient.
In excess, both provide little satiety but essentially empty calories.

In nature, both refined sugars and fat would rarely be available only in either animal substrates or abundant fruit, typically in the summer when carbohydrates are produced.

Got 15 minutes?  Then you have enough time to make my totally delish {{Perfect Garlicky Asparagus Flatbread}} 💚Asparagus ROCKS...not only is it super tasty, but it's also a low calorie food that serves as a great source of Vitamins K, B-complex, C and A.  I LOVE how beautiful the individual asparagus spears look when they are lined up on this simple garlicky, cheesy flatbread.  Great for parties or for busy weeknight dinners... Enjoy this delicious, nutritious asparagus flatbread! 
Ingredients:
1 flatbread
1 bunch asparagus tips washed (trim ~1/2 inch of the end of each stalk)
1 medium clove of garlic thinly sliced or a few shakes of granulated garlic to taste
1/2 cup reduced fat shredded mozzarella cheese
2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
Fine sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Directions:
1.  Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.  Once ready, place asparagus and flatbread into oven separately for about 4 minutes and remove.  This is to both heat the bread and allow the spears to cook a bit before making the flatbread dish. 
2.  Take the flatbread and add cheese, fresh garlic (or granulated garlic) and line asparagus spears on top as pictured above.  Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil, add salt and pepper to taste and place back in oven for about 8-10 minutes.

Many have pondered and there are many studies talking about the ideal delivery system for probiotics. Some studies seemed to favor the use of enteric-coated capsules, which could move through stomach acid without being damaged and released their contents only when they reached the small intestine, which is the most optimal. Refrigerated forms of probiotics, where the bacteria were still alive inside the capsule, rather than “freeze-dried” forms, which could be stored at room temperature, seems to be far superior.
However recent studies have shown that Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria species can now be obtained in spore form so that they are not vulnerable to oxygen and can be released into the small intestine alive and ready to repopulate the biome.

Prebiotics such as fructooligosaccharides (FOS), pectins, and beta glucans are nutritional materials that feed the beneficial bacteria and help them grow. However the probiotics need to be carefully given as they can also foster the growth of toxic bacteria. For example, Klebsiella, a common gastrointestinal pathogen, is fed by FOS.

For those of you new to my feed, I'd like to say "hello and welcome." I'm Laura Farnsworth, a Certified Nutritionist with a Master of Science in Nutrition and Integrative Health. Using the functional and integrative approaches, I practice in the Temecula, California area, offering local & telehealth services.

Previously I've studied massage therapy on two coasts and worked as a Fitness Coach and Childbirth Educator. I work mainly with women and families, and my main area of focus is supporting women with perimenopausal and menopausal concerns.

As pictured here, I'm most likely driving my kids to school, dance, or tumbling when I'm not seeing clients, reviewing academic research, exercising at the gym, walking @nova_the_labradane, shopping at Trader Joe's, or enjoying beautiful Temecula with friends.

Diagnosed with PCOS, chronic fatigue, migraines, and pelvic organ prolapses, I can empathize with many issues that women face. As a sugar addict, I often discuss the biochemistry of food addiction to empower women to take control of their health.

Recovery time in the woods with my 💗

This is how I recover and re-energize. As I enter the woods, I can feel the tension swarming as it works to exit my body. As I walk, I begin to feel my lungs expand deeper, my heart open wider, and my soul feel like it’s flying. So often, my emotions swirl between big smiles and wanting to cry.
