There always seems to be the on going debate of which is better and worse when it comes to carbs and fat. 🤔 💭

The truth is, they can live in harmony and you can have both 👫
.
Even people who are doing a low carb or keto diet 🥩 🥑, can still use carbs 🍏 intermittently for specific reasons.
.
My clients who are doing the keto diet, do what I call intermittent keto and choose days to have higher carbs, so they are using them as they see fit.
.
Those doing a high carb diet, will likely still want some fat in their diet, to aid brain health, regulate your hormones, help your hair, skin and nails and quite a few things more! 🧠❤️
.
There really is no reason to fear either one, but rather make the best choices you can with specific food and utilize both fat and carbs where you see fit in your program.
.
I have both in my diet and I will simply have more carbs on days I workout or play hockey. 🏒 💪🏻 🍠
.
On my off days, my fat is higher, while my carbs are lower. 🥗 🥑
.
My protein stays relatively the same on both days. 🍗

What should your macro targets be? Well, that depends on your goal. Macros are Protein, Carbs and Fat. Everything you eat is made up of them. The proportion of each can either be helpful or detrimental to your goal. Whether you want to get bigger or smaller your calorie intake has to match. To be smaller, you have to eat less than you burn. To get bigger, you have to eat more than you burn

1 gram of protein has 4 calories 🍗

1 gram of carbs has 4 calories 🥖
.
1 gram of fat has 9 calories 🥑
.
The macros here are just general guidelines to help you plan out your nutritional intake. Emphasis to get in adequate protein is always important and the amount of Fat vs. Carbs can fluctuate based significantly, as you can see above. There is definitely room to manoeuvre in the percentages I’ve listed

Don’t be afraid of carbs. Especially if you are trying to add muscle. When trying to lose weight though, add them in after your protein and carb values have been established 👍🏼

"So, should you be carb cycling is the question? In my opinion this is for the more advance individual. If you are just getting started with tracking macros and calories then I really strongly suggest keeping your intake the same throughout the week as it will make it way more manageable.

What Rob has here is two ways to carb cycle for your goals if you want to give it a shot. Basically for fat loss you will be in a caloric deficit with the majority of your days being low carb. On the muscle building days we are taking advantage of higher carb days to fuel your workouts in order to push that intensity up on your workouts, you will also be at a surplus above maintenance calories in order to build lean mass.

Keep your protein intake the same throughout the whole process as you want to maintain lean muscle mass that you've already acquired or you want to put on."

Nuts are one of the those snacks that are absolutely healthy, but wayyy easy to over-consume. While most serving sizes are a small handful, it’s easy to enjoy multiple servings without even realizing it.

Weighing out your portion might not be an option, so use this guide to help you eyeball your portion, if needed!

I’ve seen guides like this pop up before, and a lot of the numbers differ slightly. Rest-assured, I did thorough research here, and cross-checked between multiple labels to get a good approximate. Shoutout to Planters for being so reliable!

Knowing how to eyeball portions and estimate calories is a great skill to have. While weighing out servings to figure out the exact serving size helps, it’s not the approach we want to use forever. By learning how to visualize portion sizes, you’ll be one step closer to not having to weigh out all of your food.

What’s your nut ranking? For me, cashews are for sure number one, followed by almonds, and then pistachios. As much as I love peanut butter, I don’t really enjoy snacking on peanuts. Go figure.
