If you're wondering what foods are these, they're my favourite sources at the moment 😋 ⠀⁠

Starting from top left we have⠀⁠
- An avocado⠀⁠
- Cashews⠀⁠
- Dark chocolate 70% cacao (look for the ones without milk powder)⠀⁠
- Coconut flakes (in moderation as they're high in saturated fat)⠀⁠
- Flax seeds - omega 3 source (consume ground for optimal absorption) ⠀⁠
- Chia seeds - another omega 3 source⠀⁠
- Almond flour ⠀⁠
- Tahini (essentially sesame seed butter) ⠀⁠
- Peanut butter ⠀⁠
⠀⁠
Unsaturated fats, so polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats are essential and super healthy 🙏🏼 ⠀⁠

If you were old enough to remember, 1990 was filled with the anti-fat 🥑 diet logic...

The idea was that fat in any form is the reason for obesity, health problems and you should be avoiding it at all costs. The 90’s were plagued with foods that were all about low fat and high carb. These carbs also were not healthy complex and nutrient dense plants, they were sugar, sugar and some oh yeah… added sugar…
.
If you remember most packaging was all about low fat and no one cared what else was in the product as long as it wasn’t fat. This was done by using cherry picked old science to dictate what we should be eating.
.
Thankfully most of that has stopped, at least to some degree and we can all agree that fats should be in your diet to some extent. We might not always agree on the type of fat, but going on a low fat diet will not be helping most people’s health, especially when replacing that with sugar.
.
Now some people that have certain medical ailments might have to adhere to this, such as someone who had their gallbladder taken out and cannot handle higher amounts of fat. However aside from a few of the medical reasons, the average person should not be worried about having fat in their diet.
.
Instead, having fat in your diet is important to regulate your hormones, fuel your brain health, help with mineral absorption and stabilize your blood sugar. You want fat in your diet.
.
I will do another post on the types of fat to get in your diet, but overall the idea that fat is a problem simply needs to end for good.

release tension in your body and can improve your overall feelings of wellness, too. These stretches may help increase flexibility, extend your range of motion, and prevent injury.⠀

So next time you’re on the phone catching yourself just sitting and talking, try standing up instead and stretch out your shoulders. ⠀

1. Clasp your hands, turn palms up and reach up. Keeps ribs in and tummy tight inhale and send the arms back. Go back and forth in gentle movements. Try to push shoulders away from you and away from the ears. ⠀

2. Clasp fingers behind you and send the arms away while lowering the shoulders away from the ears and down. ⠀
Don’t arch yr back keep it straight ⠀

3. Lift arms up , clasp hold one of your hands with opposite hand . ⠀
Inhale stretch up and lift then exhale bend to side. ⠀

4. Clasp hands behind yr head. Reach elbows towards the back inhale and look up towards the sky if you want to lean back a little and keep the stretch . This feels soooo good in the back and is a great stretch for the shoulders. ⠀

5. Cross one elbow over the other and bring the palms together lift the elbows up and away and and push the forearms forward. You should feel a nice stretch in your upper back. ⠀

Give this exercise a go. Personally, I have dealt with a few shoulder injuries in the past, such as shoulder bursitis, and recently recovering from a broken collarbone (March 2019), this exercise has been really helpful in helping me rehabilitate my shoulder joint and muscles.

S meals on Saturday & Sunday
We will be starting on this coming weekend - Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd so you have a few days to organise your meal plans and make sure you know how to take a photo and upload it.

The Challenge
Your challenge, should you accept, is to post a picture or recipe of an actual fat fuelled (S) meal that you served, preferably a main meal to make it interesting but if you're a beginner we will accept breakfast or lunches. If, as a beginner you don't know the difference, that's fine too! That's what I'm here for - to help, to encourage, to equip and empower you!

If you are not a beginner and think this is way too easy then the challenge is a little harder. 🧐 You have to post the recipe or photo of a Deep S or Heavy S meal AND tell us why it is either Deep or Heavy.

Remember that it's a participation challenge, not a photography challenge.... I'm not looking for beautiful photography... your participation is what is most important because that's how we learn best! 
The Challenge Schedule ✅ Saturday & Sunday - post an S meal.
✅ Monday and Tuesday - post an E meal.
✅ Wednesday and Thursday - post a Fuel Pull meal.
✅ On Friday we will wrap up and review what we've learned.

You can work out all you want but at the end of the day it really comes down to what you put in your body in order to fuel it. Everyone has cheat days don’t get me wrong, but if your eating like crap don’t expect the 5 star results, especially if your hitting up McDonald’s a few times a week. It all comes down to what you are trying to achieve though. Someone like me who’s looking to gain weight and muscle needs to be on a high protein high carb diet, and be at a caloric surplus by the end of the day. Someone looking to lose weight needs to be in a caloric deficit by the end of the day and will obviously need less carbs and protein. So it’s up to you to find out about what your diet needs to be for the results you’re looking to get. This is just a picture representing the significance of your diet and how it can affect your gains, whether your eating healthy or like crap 🤷🏾‍♂️

Did you know swapping calories from saturated fat (high fat meat/dairy, coconut oil etc) for calories from whole grains, nuts, seeds and/or avocado will reduce your risk of the worlds leading cause of death - cardiovascular disease. This is very widely established across the scientific literature and speaks to the importance of the ‘replacement factor’. The replacement factor essentially means when we are consuming a certain food (e.g saturated fat rich animal products) what’s the net effect of the nutrition in those foods AND the foods you are displacing and therefore missing out on.

While quinoa is considered a pseudo grain it ticks the boxes as a whole grain from a nutritional point of view. It comes in three different colours (black, red and white) - I recommend buying a mixed variety or rotating across the weeks. Enjoy quinoa in a salad, as a side, in a burrito or as the base of your favourite buddha bowl - options are endless. I personally like to rotate quinoa with brown rice and various potatoes across the week as my major sources of healthful unrefined carbohydrates. If you know me pretty well then you know I LOVE nut butter. It can turn a boring food into a 10/10. Think banana, oatmeal, toast, etc.😉

Yumbutter makes so many different varieties of nut butters and the name is very fitting because they are YUMMY! They also come in these very convenient to go pouches so you can just bring them on the go and squeeze it on whatever you need, or right in your mouth, I wouldn’t judge!🤷🏼‍♀️

My two favorites are the superfood almond butter and the protein almond butter, but you honestly can’t go wrong with any of them!

Do not be afraid of fat!! You NEED fats, especially if you are a woman. I wouldn’t recommend going under 50 grams of fat per day at the very least for women. Nut butters are a great source of healthy fats! It is clean energy and helps keep you full and satisfied!

Schools have our kids reading the classics, but I have my kid watching what I consider a classic: Super Size Me. This is basic information that could change our kids perceptions, their health, and their lives-but it’s not taught in school (schools can argue that it is, but I’ll argue and win that it’s not). Public schools have our kids learning outdated information, useless skills, and how to waste time while feeding them food that lowers IQ. Yes, these foods lower IQ, hurt the brain, and cause symptoms of mood and anxiety disorders. We don’t eat fast food, so my daughter was fascinated by the idea of eating McDonalds every day for 30 days as an experiment. She was astounded that some children immediately recognized Ronald McDonald but could not identify the photo of Jesus Christ. She was very surprised to watch the physicians minimize what they thought would happen with this experiment, only to warn him of impending liver failure 3 weeks later. She learned about the connection between fast food addiction and heroin addiction. She was so disgusted by this documentary that it might be a fast food inoculation for a lifetime. We are home schooling this year, and this is what I consider a real education. This, and real estate investment. We do the important classes at home, but I hand pick the curriculum. I don’t actually care whether or not she reads Little Women or The Hobbit unless she enjoys those books. Two posts in one day 😅 But this one is important!!! I made a goal recently to start focusing on fresh produce in my diet rather than processed packaged foods (like GF breads or pastas). I don’t think those foods are bad, and I’ll enjoy them occasionally, but I want my main focus to be on the naturally occurring produce that is packed full of vitamins and nutrients!!! Like this broccoli that is full of vitamin C and K or the avocado is loaded with potassium and fiber!! Make a goal with yourself to include a fresh produce option in every meal. You can still enjoy your food while making a lifestyle change :)
