The biggest mistake people make when they work abs is that they don't think about breathing.
- 
Most people perform ab exercises when there's a lot of air in their lungs still, preventing their abs from contracting properly since the air acts as a cushion. This is why people don't see any difference in their abs even if they work abs every day.

Breathe in when you are at the start of the movement (whether it is crunches, sit-ups, leg raises, etc.) and slowly breathe out as you contract your abs. This will release the oxygen in your stomach, allowing you to contract your abs all the way!

I’ve just been using the basic “build your plate” principles and I must say, I’m so excited to be including that in this #tightertogether manual because it makes vacations or restaurants or takeout a breeze. Last night my sister in law and I were in charge of dinner and we made @lillieeatsandtells creamy green chicken chili bake and her enchiladas 🌮🌯 Everyone loved them! This post is specifically referring to doing your strength training and cardio in the same session.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
If your goal is to lose fat, gain muscle or get stronger, you should ALWAYS do your strength training first.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
For fat loss, your first priority will be nutrition and specifically a calorie deficit. After that, strength training should be #2 on the list. It will have a much more profound impact on fat loss than cardio.⁣⁣

Lifting:⁣⁣
⁣⁣
1. Burns Calories⁣⁣
⁣⁣
2. Builds Muscle⁣⁣
⁣⁣
3. Increases Strength⁣⁣
⁣⁣
4. Raises Metabolism for 24-48 Hours⁣⁣
⁣⁣
5. Completely Reshapes Your Body⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Cardio burns calories, and *can* raise metabolism for 24-48 hours if done at a high enough intensity (HIIT). That’s it. You reap none of the other benefits listed above.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
For gaining muscle, hopefully it’s pretty obvious you should prioritize weight training over cardio. Nuff said.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Strength - same holds true. If you do too much cardio before your strength training, your overall energy levels and strength will be impaired.⁣⁣

I am NOT anti-cardio. Cardio-loving people please don’t comment on how I hate cardio because I don’t. I am *anti-prioritizing cardio over strength if fat loss, muscle gain or strength is your goal*. Cardio has it’s place if you have time for it.⁣⁣

If you walk on the treadmill for 10 minutes before your strength training, you’ll probably be fine. But that’s more of a warm up and not a structured cardio session. Don’t confuse them.⁣⁣

12 minute LOWER BODY HIIT – set your timer for 12 rounds of 45:15 seconds intervals.
You will be working as hard as you can during the 🔥 45 seconds 🔥 and resting during the 15 seconds. 
It’s only 4 exercise – but be aware, this is a HIGH IMPACT workout. ▪️Single Dumbbell RDLs
▪️Pulse Banded Squats.
▪️Banded single leg deadlifts
▪ Jumping Lunges. 
You will do the exercises in a circuit fashion way. After round 4 (aka ~ jumping lunges), you will go back to single dumbbell RDLs... until you complete round 12.

I’m feeling sluggish these days, however I’m still trying to  stay positive! I think my body is finally feeling the consequences of not teaching regularly. Going from dancing five days a week to once a week is a big shift for me. The challenge for me is the lack of motivation and accountability. I took the day off yesterday from working out so I could spend some extra time with my family 😊 And I'm not going to lie, I ate like crap this weekend and I'm feeling it today. Who else over indulged this weekend?? I did get this one done before my brain talked me out of it 🤣 This was seriously tough @teresazbozen. I did swings for my cardio with 40 lbs and may have been yelling at you during the last round 🤣🤣🤣 But I'm glad I hit play because I feel so much better ❤ 
I did add an extra 45 mins of cardio because I felt I needed it. Pistol squats are a great single leg exercise. But there are a few things that will limit the ability to get into a proper pistol squats, including mobility & strength. Amongst these, what I see a lot of people struggle w is ankle mobility (so the foot is flat on the floor), along w  hamstring flexibility & hip flexor/quad strength (to get the non squatting leg straight in front of you & off the ground).
⚠️ Lowering into a pistol squat should be done w caution & control, NOT momentum. Knee follows the same direction as toes.

2. Take your time to work on ankle mobility, hamstring flexibility & hip flexor/quad strength. This will not happen overnight
3. Let’s start unconventionally and differently from what you’ll see mostly out there, which is lowering into a squat. This clip & the next 2 will help you come up from a pistol squat & strengthen your legs & glutes. 1) Make sure you can get into a deep squat at first. Work on that before moving on. 2) Then start rolling on your back. 3) Roll & come up on your feet 4) Roll & try to stand up higher each time till completely up straight ⚠️tuck in your chin as you roll on your back
4. Perform each of the variations one at a time as seen here till you’re able to do each easily ⚠️tuck in your chin as you roll on your back
5. Pistols with w control down, rolling in your back then standing up
Now let’s change things up & work on lowering into a squat:
6. Single leg chair sits. Lower the bench height used over time
7. Deficit pistols
8. Assisted pistols. You may use TRX or a person to assist you up
9. Counter weighted pistols. They’re actually a bit easier since the weight is helping you counterbalance. Keep it away form you. Not close to your body as that will make it more difficult
10. Celebrate! You’ve unlocked the magic power of Pistol Squats 🥳🤪

It’s time for a sweaty HIIT workout!! This one is strictly body weight and consists of 6 different exercises.🙌 These type of workouts are shorter so push yourself as hard as you can and take advantage of the rest periods👍

Workout:
*40 seconds on, 20 seconds off
1️⃣Jump squat➡️inchworm➡️tricep push up➡️back squeeze 
2️⃣Reverse lunge into oblique knee drive
3️⃣Up down into 2 downward dog crunch
4️⃣Narrow pulse squat into wide pulse squat 
5️⃣Clap jack
6️⃣Reverse burpees
*2-4 minutes of rest in between each set. Repeat 3-4x

Cardio is hardio. each of the sequences are done right after the other for at least 30 seconds. After one complete round I need to take a break bc catching my breath is still a struggle. 
i really can’t run as of right now due to calf issues. once i get that figured out i’ll be able to get back at it so another great option of cardio is boxing. fighting is something i have always been into and want to pursue, but it’s just not my time yet so i’ll just keep it up as workout for my lungs. it’s still quite hard for me to do, but i know the more i do it the easier itll be for me.  i still need to train my brain to be more confident and work harder.

also if your hair aint a complete cludder of disarray are you even going hard?

Just finished my workout I did 21,219 steps for grand total of 1,044 calories burned. I walked for 8.69 miles and finished with a time of 3 hours and 12 minutes.
