Pineapple Fried Rice 🍍 by @plantbased.traveler

2 cups cooked rice of choice * 
1 cup chopped pineapple

Tofu egg:
1/2 block organic firm tofu
1 small onion
2 garlic cloves 
1/2 tbsp nutritional yeast 
1/4 -1/2 tsp kala namak salt 
Pinch of turmeric 
Pepper to taste 
Veggies: 
1 red bell pepper 
1  carrot 
2 spring onion
1/2 cup shelled edamame 
1 cup chopped broccoli florets 
1/4 cup corn
1/4 cup peas

To season: 
2 tbsp coconut aminos 
2 tbsp teriyaki style sauce ** Chili flakes to taste

Optional: 
Pineapple boat for serving 🍍 *previoulsy cooked rice works best, or at least let it cool down completely before using ** I used @traderjoes Island soyaki sauce (Makes 2+ servings)

As always first step is to prepare your veggies. Wash/peel bell pepper and carrot and dice them. Cut washed broccoli into small florets and slice spring onion. If using frozen peas, corn and edamame, take them out of the freezer and set aside. 
Finely dice onion and garlic and sauté them with a few drops of oil or a splash of water, starting with the onion, then adding garlic once onion is starting to brown. 
Break up tofu into crumbles with a fork, add it to the pan together with the spices and continue cooking for a few more minutes. I like adding a splash of unsweetened plant milk if texture is too dry. 
Set tofu aside and sauté carrot, bell pepper, broccoli and spring onion, then add peas, corn and edamame to the mix. 
Next, add rice and stir until everything is well combined and heated through. Add tofu back to the pan/wok and season with coconut aminos, sauce and some chili flakes to taste.
At the very end add pineapple and enjoy 😊

Whether you’re looking to improve your overall health or simply slim down for summer, burning off excess fat can be quite challenging.

I speak to so many people that tell me they are working out 5,6,7 days week and arent able to lose weight.

There is so much more to losing weight than spending countless hours at the gym 🏃🏻‍♀️ First thing is first - You need to be in a calorie deficit in order top lose weight. You need -to burn more calories / energy than you consume. There is no short cut around that. 
Every diet out there has one thing in common. CALORIE DEFICIT… 
Ditch ❌ the fad diets! These quick detoxes and juice cleanses arent sustainable. Your body is smart and designed to withstand famine. That means it will compensate for restriction by driving up your hunger levels. “If you go on a regimented food plan that does not take into consideration your individual calorie needs or food likes or dislikes, it cannot last forever,” It will become unsustainable and that’s were the dieting yo-yo effect comes in. You lose 5kg and gain it back… Which than causes you to stress - which may lead to elevated cortisol levels that stimulate your appetite, with the end result being weight gain or difficulty losing weight.

Heres what you need to do to lose weight. ✅ Get on top of your nutrition. Be in a calorie deficit.
Eat real, whole foods and less processed foods. ✅ Reduce stress. This is so important as I explained what happens when your stress levels elevate. ✅ Strength train 🏋🏻‍♀️ / exercise 3 - 5 x per week. 
Strength training is so important for weight loss because muscle helps you burn more calories. The more muscle you have the more calories you are going to burn. The best thing is it doesn’t end after you leave the gym. Your body is still torching calories for the next 24 to 48 hours as it works to repair stressed muscle tissues. That's known as the after burn effect. ✅ Exercising promotes the release of feel-good chemicals in the brain like endorphins and serotonin. So when you feel good you are more than likely to make better food choices that will help you stay on track.

Homemade breakfast in Greece 🇬🇷🤗 I fell in love with this country, with the beautiful views, with the people and with the food 😍 Even if we have a quite small kitchen with limited equipment in our villa, I enjoyed preparing this plate so much!! Not Instagram worthy fried eggs (still not bad for the new pan and first time try, right? 😌), a piece of bread with sun dried tomato paste sprinkled with feta, a few slices of the sweetest peach I have ever had, cucumber and tomato seasoned with Greek spices mix and olives (because who needs avocado when you have the most delicious olives around you) 🍳🥒🍅🤩 It was easy, healthy, delicious and tasted like home 😍

Hands up if you enjoy your alcohol 🙋🏻‍♀️ When I was on my weight loss journey I went through a stage where I was working out, eating well but not losing weight which was soooo frustrating. 😩

I didn’t 🤷🏻‍♀️ know where I was going wrong.

There were weeks I’d lose weight and weeks I wouldn’t lose a gram.

I started to notice 🤔the weeks I would go out on the weekends and drink my weight wouldn’t budge.

I started to look closely into then calories of alcohol and was shocked at the amount of calories I was consuming in 1 night.

I would never of imagined 1 cocktail had almost ½ my daily calories I was on! 
I quickly changed that and started to have clear shots alcohol or vodka sodas which have an average of only 64 calories per tumbler.

The average serve of a cocktail is generally 200 calories and let’s be real who only has 1❓ Definitely not me 🙅🏻‍♀️. You can still go out and enjoy your drinks 🍸 but just get familiar with what your having.

For A LOT of people alcohol can be the primary reason to why they’re not seeing results. 
If you are going out and you know you are going to be drinking ⤴️increase you protein though out that day. ⤵️ Decrease your fats and carbs so you can save some calories for your booz.

Stick to vodka / diet soda or a glass of wine which will have the least calories… ∙  A traditional pina colada, composed of rum, pineapple juice and cream of coconut can contain as much as 650 calories.
If you do like your cocktails opt for light rum, or substitute unsweetened coconut water for cream of coconut to get more drink for fewer calories.

My choice of drink is definitely vodka soda 🍸. What is yours?

Carbohydrates, what are they good for and how much should you eat?

The main role of carbohydrates is as an energy source, they provide us with 4 calories per gram, and are our primary energy source, our brain uses glucose as a main source of energy, and are used for glycogen metabolism.

Glucose can be stored in the muscle bellies and liver as glycogen, glycogen is a readily mobilized storage form of glucose that can be broken down to glucose molecules for when energy is needed.

This is essential to training performance and recovery, an athletes ability to train the next day relies largely on adequate restoration of glycogen stores, which requires a sufficient intake of carbohydrates.

Carbohydrates also assist in the oxidation process of fat, and are used to burn off fats effectively.

Muscle glycogen synthesis is at its highest rate during the first 2 hours of exercise, this is when you want to be eating your simple carbohydrates, to help recover + replete glycogen and substrates.

The time and type of carbohydrates are also important, due to the glycaemic response which is how quickly a food has an effect on blood sugar after consumption.

The general rule of thumb is to eat lower glycaemic index foods (complex carbs) further away from training, like oats pasta, rice, potato, and other starchy foods, these provide a more sustained release of energy, whereas closer to your workout window, such as post workout, you want to eat high glycaemic index foods (simple carbs) as this provide a fast release of energy, quickly elevating blood sugar, beginning repletion of muscle glycogen stores, aswell as providing an insulin spike, which helps shuttle nutrients into muscle cells.

If you are at maintainence or in a surplus, its recommend to eat 4g per kilo of bodyweight, however if you are dieting and in a deficit, once adequate protein and fat intake is achieved, use the remainder of your calories as carbohydrates.

I’m still cracking up over the fact that I got a picture with coach while holding a pop tart!!! He does NOT approve of my consumption of pop tarts before intense workouts, but so far I have built a strong case to continue the pop tart life. Last night we raced up a steep hill on our bikes...he beat me, whatever🙄...but I distinctly remember one giant hill back in May that I beat him up, and guess what I ate at the base of that monster?? Yup. A cinnamon sugar pop tart goodness. (Also won $75 for being the 3rd female up that hill too!) soooo I’m thinking I’ll keep eating the pop tarts and keep training hard and one day I’ll smoke him on all the hills 👌😉 Oh, TEN DAYS til my big race!!! Super thankful for this guy right here. I’m ready for next week because of him. The workouts, the training advice, the answering of alllll my questions, the gear recommendations, the encouragement, the therapy sessions on the days I felt like I was failing, the changing of my workouts mid-week when he could see I was on the brink of overtraining, and all the laughs along the way have made #ironmantraining an awesome experience! Their mini muffin range were pretty good. Although it was dry, it was still tasty and not too sweet. Loading up on carbs 🤣

For many this can be a minefield in the unknown,  for someone who never considered calories, have no understanding of macros, it is a big learning curve, not just what foods to eat, but also how do you  know how many calories you should be eating?  To answer this is quite easy, you work out your Tdee, sounds complicated right?  But there are many on line Tdee calculators on line, all you need is some basic info, your age, height and weight.  Once you have this figure then a deficit figure can be calculated for loss - if you have a coach / trainer they are wonderful sources of info.  Once you have your deficit, you then are best advised to track your food, (again there are many out there) .  Tracking food is a great tool, as guessing / estimating can be sabotaging your goal.

If you are looking to be sensible about weight loss, get advice, restriction diets and starving yourself don't work in the long run, take a steady route that changes your mindset and is sustainable for life.

Try your best to eat foods in the main meals that produce higher satiety (high fiber foods, more veggies!). 2️⃣ Are you feeling deprived? As in, are you getting enough food but missing a few things like sugar, salt, etc...? It's less about an actual physiological hunger and more of a psychological thing. This is when the macro approach works best. Try to have those satisfying foods in small amounts, as long as they fit your macros.

3️⃣ Are you seeking comfort from food? As in you're not actually hungry but eating makes you calm and happy. This is when deeper work is done and your coach will look into different aspects in your life to fix it. If this is the case, food is not the issue. There are situations in your life that need to be worked, and your relationship with food will automatically improve!

4️⃣ Are you surrounded by an unhealthy environment? Talk about your certain dietary choice with other people, you may inspire them to join you. Make the change, don't let others control you.

Finally went to @butternyc ... and there’s a reason this pastas been on the menu since they opened. Homemade pasta with spicy lamb sausage and a yellow tomato sauce. Just delicious! And the portion was huge! I literally had an entire lunch serving leftover. •

Oggi è chiaramente un giorno low carbs per me 😅 ma il minestrone di mamma sa consolarmi bene, per non parlare di quello che c'è a fianco. Si tratta di una rivisitazione di un piatto che adoravo negli anni passati 👉 ricettina veloce 👉 insalata di melanzane🍆e pollo 🍗 grigliati, conditi ed aromatizzati con aglio origano olio e aceto balsamico, lasciati riposare per far mescolare bene i sapori. Questa versione è fatta invece con filetto di vitello, perché vi svelo un segreto.. Sono una palestrata che non può mangiare pollo 😂
