➕The most common fault when it comes to arching in the bench press is an arch at the lumbar spine which usually leads to not having contact to the bench with the butt and besides endangering your lower back won’t lead to the desired stability that we aim to achieve for the lift. A stable and safe arch is achieved at the thoracic spine!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Here are two of my favorite swing variations. I need to keep these present in my training. Every time i do think I really enjoy how they feel and the type of loading it applies. .
.
The first is a hinge dominant version, where the load is mainly through the hamstrings. I like doing these supported because balance, especially on the hinge variation is hard to maintain. .
.
The second variation is a little more quad and glute. The slightly elevated foot allows you to have something to step back off of. The angles and position of load for both of these exercises are solid. .

Let your arm act  as a pendulum during these movements. Your hips and legs are the drivers and the arm is locked it. .

The amount of resources “adaptive energy” your body had to allocate to the stress-adaptation cycle is finite. This has been inferred via studies looking at compounded stressors. Thus, despite the fact we cannot quantify the “adaptive energy” in the body, it’s logical to assume that reducing non-specific stressors may free up some of the divided resources to allow for more optimal adaptation. Breathing and stress reduction seems like a simple, cost effective means of reducing unwanted psychological stress .

This week we are showing the floor press, which certainly isn't a new move in the world of fitness, but may be new to some.
Floor press has been around since the first days of resistance training and eventually led to the bench press. 
We like to utilize this move anywhere we would use bench press or a pushing type movement. The advantages of floor pressing include; more work for the upper body, being on the floor takes away leg drive, less impact/injury risk for the shoulders and shortened range of motion. 
By being able to focus more on the upper body many will see an increase in chest and arms strength, especially on lockout of their pressing movements. This is where the benefit of the shortened range of motion comes in. The shoulders are also moving in a healthier range when floor press is used, this eliminating some of the injury risk that typically comes from bench pressing.

Reintroduced something under my feet for the next set which seemed to fix the problem. Pretty happy with how today went. 10 doubles at 67 plus double bands on the bow bar despite the feet theatrics. Best not to speak of the incline dumbbell work for now.

Implementing Overcoming Isometrics during preseason intensification block.

This is a modification to the old isometronics method influenced by Salvati’s & Ditillo’s work from the 60’s & 80’s. Rather than do shortened reps between pins, we implement full range work outside of pins and finish inside for an overcoming Isometric work.

Tissue adaptation and strength are both range of motion specific, so this method gives us the benefit of both. Specifically regarding strength adaptation, there should be strength increase about 15 degrees above and below the contact point into the pin.

A1 - 5x5 DB Press
rest 10 sec
A2 - 5x1 Pin Press (8 sec)

This specific set and rep scheme is from the 1st training session of a 2 week intensification block. The goal is to increase weight used by 2 percent for the exact same set and rep scheme in week 2.

📝 I can’t stress enough how important it is to regularly tweak your exercises in order to keep progressing. A great way to tweak your bench press is switching from barbells to dumbbells regularly. But it doesn’t stop here. Just as vary grip width in the barbell bench press you can also adjust your dumbbell bench press by using different grips (supinated, pronated and neutral) as well as different arm angles. Even though you will always recruit all the relevant muscles that are involved in pressing, shifting arm angles (and grips) will make a difference regarding which muscle group gets more emphasis (which matters mostly in the lower position of the lift).⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
➕ When pressing around 70 degrees you will have a lot of emphasis on the sternocostal head of your Pectoralis Major muscle (= middle chest).⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
➕ When operating at an angle lower than 50 degrees emphasis shifts to the Anterior Deltoid, clavicular head of the Pectoralis Major (upper chest), and Triceps. Another benefit of this arm angle is an increased mobility of your shoulders in this position as well as less stress on these joints. This is why (dumbbell) bench pressing with smaller angles is a great way to keep pressing while having shoulder issues without increasing those issues further.⁣
