When it comes to building core strength, Plank Pose reigns supreme due to its ability to work all four muscle groups in the stomach . . . oh, you thought you only had “abs?” Plank strengthens the rectus abdominis (visual “six-pack” muscles), transverse abdominis (deep core stabilizing muscles), and the internal and external obliques (hip and back mobilizing muscles).

As your abdominal muscles become stronger, the body becomes less reliant on the overuse and overextension of the back muscles. Instead, your body resorts to the now stronger core for everyday activities and exercise, which reduces pain in the lower back.

Achieving better posture is most easily done by ensuring the spine, mid, and upper body muscles are strong and healthy. A strong core is absolutely everything in my opinion. Way too often, people focus and prioritize on the wrong thing in the gym which is get strong and jacked as hell by lifting heavy loads and slamming the weights. Now that's great and I agree, lifting heavy is awesome, but the priority for all gym goers should be a strong core for both performance reasons and health reasons. So before you start lifting heavy, let's ensure you can do so safely and reap the benefits of the heavy loads. Here is why you need a strong core:
.
👉You can lift heavier: when you have sa strong core and your spinal column and body is stabilized, you reduce energy leaks in the kinetic chain meaning. This leads to stronger, more powerful contractions of the muscles required to lift the load and reduces compensation from other muscles, usually synergistic muscles.
👉Reduce the likelihood of injury: by ensuring your core is strong, your spine is going to be stabilized throughout everyday activities and through various exercises which reduces stress on the back as well as compensation from other muscles due to poor form which can lead to overuse injuries especially if the muscles that are compensating are not meant to handle heavy loads placed on them.
👉To have a healthy back: one of the biggest problems in our world is lower back injuries and while that is often caused by tight hip flexor a and poor posture, it is also caused by a weak abdominal wall and deep spinal stabilizers.

Don't neglect the core. My favourite core exercises are planks and deadbugs and then progressing to more advanced ones like hanging leg raises and wood choppers and cable crunches and ice cream makers.

When it comes to fat loss, your progress is strongly determined by your habits and your choices. Of course, and I've said it a million times, every decision you make will either get you closer or farther away from your goals. It is the small choices where a lot of people seem to make mistakes include things like consuming too many liquid calories such as sodas and alcohol which can seriously add up in total caloric intake in a day; being sedentary and sitting for hours and hours in a day instead of getting more active; being too focused on cardio and not enough on storength training which often leads to higher amounts muscle loss rather than fat loss; scheduling in multiple cheat meals as opposed to refeed days which again adds up in calories very quickly; and finally, not setting yourself goals and not being patient in reaching your goals. To the last point, way too many people want results right here right now and forget it takes time and consistency. Everyone is so focused on shortcuts, magic pills and powders and expect to get results. It is about habits not shortcuts. Every decision you make either takes you one step closer or farther from your goals. Develop habits so that your choices always lead to the right destination.

HIIT is one of my favourite ways to train. You get in and get out quite fast whilst burning a ton of calories and having an incredibly effective workout in almost no time (10 to 20 minutes). More than enough literature has proven HIIT to be effective in both anaerobic cardiovascular conditioning as well as have aerobic benefits as well. In my peak conditioning in Olympic style taekwondo when I was competing in provincials, my resting heart rate was 38bpm simply because of the condition I was in through mostly HIIT 2x/week on top of my training. Furthermore, you not only burn a ton of calories during the workout, but you burn a significant amount of calories post workout too through something called EPOC (excess post-oxygen consumption) which is simply the amount of oxygen we need to consume to return our body to resting levels of physiological functioning. Now, HIIT sounds awesome and is usually done in intervals of 10-30 seconds of work with equivalent or double the rest, but it doesn't have to be complicated. In fact, some of the best HIIT workouts I have ever done are simple with only 1 or 2 exercises in total. I have made two examples here where we are either sprinting or swinging a kettlebell for our "work" intervals. If you're a beginner, I wouldn't even suggest HIIT. As you become more fit and want to include it in your routine, I would start with a work:rest ratio of 1:2 and build your way down to 1:1 in time. More advanced athletes can build it to 2:1. Never take these examples verbatim. Always adjust to your needs and fitness level.

If I'm being honest I really just started doing more core and ab work. Just like any other muscle it needs worked too! I try to hit my abs every other day. I feel like my mid section heals fairly quick, so I just keep hammering them! Just so we all are on the same page....working your abs will not get you shredded abs!!!! Being in a caloric deficit and losing body fat will those. Working your abs will make them stronger and thicker making them appear more shredded. Lose the fat is 🔑

1️⃣ Planks (hold for 1 min each, then switch)
2️⃣ Basic Sit ups 3x15-20 (add weight optional)

Nutrition can be confusing. I just Googled "how to eat healthy," & 394 million hits appeared in .86 seconds. It's no wonder many people struggle with trying to figure out what's appropriate for them in terms of nutrition.

I prefer to help people create healthy habits that can be maintained over a lifetime vs. some short-term diet.

Nutrition doesn't have to be hard, but it's vitally important to your results & overall health. I even recently saw a quote that stated... Eating healthy is a form of self respect.

To keep it simple, follow the 80/20 rule (80% healthy / 20% less healthy) so that you can eat a balance of healthy whole foods while still enjoying some of the foods you love.

When it comes to fat loss, your progress is strongly determined by your habits and your choices. Of course, and I've said it a million times, every decision you make will either get you closer or farther away from your goals. It is the small choices where a lot of people seem to make mistakes include things like consuming too many liquid calories such as sodas and alcohol which can seriously add up in total caloric intake in a day; being sedentary and sitting for hours and hours in a day instead of getting more active; being too focused on cardio and not enough on storength training which often leads to higher amounts muscle loss rather than fat loss; scheduling in multiple cheat meals as opposed to refeed days which again adds up in calories very quickly; and finally, not setting yourself goals and not being patient in reaching your goals. To the last point, way too many people want results right here right now and forget it takes time and consistency. Everyone is so focused on shortcuts, magic pills and powders and expect to get results. It is about habits not shortcuts. Every decision you make either takes you one step closer or farther from your goals. Develop habits so that your choices always lead to the right destination.
